I guess like Kathy, I'm a half & half "adult collector". I like some of the dolls as is in their box, but I also like to "play dolls". I take them out, redress them, etc. I really like different ethnicities like in real life & that is what attracted me to Candi in the first place. Barbie is so often the same smiling blond. I'm not wild about the ultra sophisticated styles Candi is aiming for now; I prefer the everyday ethnic representations like the new Integrity line dolls. Also themes that apply to my life like dolls that represent places I've traveled to or activities I enjoy. I personally don't like the silkstones as vintage really does nothing for me; neither does mod. I like elegant dolls occasionally; I own a Holiday Toast & Best Dressed Candis.( I like the outfits to be made well & look nice.) But, I like everyday themes, too. I collect all kinds of 11 1/2" dolls-Integrity, Mattel, Candi, Jakks Pacific (not Girl Force, however). I also have numerous Genes & several Elle dolls which I also enjoy dressing & displaying in seasonal scenes. Melissa
What defines an adult collector and why would Candi appeal to this kind of collector that Silkstone Barbies wouldn't? Or why do both kinds of dolls appeal to "adult" collectors? Just who and what is an
adult
collector of FASHION dolls?
Is
it possible that Candi dolls have never represented the mundane by virtue
of
the ethnicities they've tried to capture? What else about them makes them less mundane?
How do any of you original Candi collectors maintain your
excitement for the dolls? And I know there a many of you still on this
List
that can answer that question. Regards, Pat Brown
