For the record: with patches that I posted in reply to John Ries
I am able to build GPC based on GCC 4.3.6 on Linux using clang
version 7. So it should be possible to use clang for bootstrapping
GPC on Mac without too much fiddling with compiler flags.
IIUC ATM there are other unresolved problems, but this is a step
forward...
