    I also jumped ship to Ada with very satisfactory results.  I found the exception handling in Ada to be particularly useful and easy to use. After my PC was upgraded from Windows XP to 7 I found that GPC code that contained any Goto statements (used to jump to outer block in the event of error conditions) would no longer run so I had to do something. I’ll give a few details in case they are useful to anyone else on this list.

 

   My Pascal (now Ada) code is statically linked to C interfaces to Python – which are compiled to give Python extensions (which are DLLs). The C interfaces needed some minor changes to work with Ada. This scheme will work with versions of Python up to 3.4. On Windows for Python 3.5 and later there are compatibility problems because the Microsoft compiler has changed:  the old C run time library (MSVCRT) has been replaced by the ‘Universal CRT’.

  There is a project to produce a Python-compatible Mingw (mingwpy) – but Ada is not listed as a supported language.

  The codes are for electromagnetic modal analysis. I would not expect exact agreement in results between different compilers. Differences (double precision) in results between Ada, GPC and earlier HP Pascal versions were 1 in 10^5 at worst. This is good enough as it is better than I can measure, although the differences are larger than I had expected.

I'm not sure how committed people on this list are to staying with Pascal but if you are prepared to jump ship to Ada then I can tell you from my own experience it is well worth the effort. Some years ago (around the time of the discussion "Quo vadis, GPC?") I made the leap and though it took a lot of work (about 2 million lines of code) I am so glad I made the switch. The Ada language is brilliant, it has everything I need as a scientific programmer (just to mention a few points: native multi-tasking, strong typing, generics, object oriented, procedure overloading, platform independent). The compiler is part of the GNU collection so it is as up-to-date as gcc (currently 6.1.0). There is a very active news group comp.lang.ada. I used the p2ada tool to convert my files (it's a great start but you will need to do a lot of work on the generated Ada files). You can find the latest version at this web site
