Thanks. I thought X86 was inappropriate for AMD.

The grx libraries apparently installed just fine, and so

did gpc, which was a binary install using Aptitude.

The grx test programs worked.

I entered the pascal subdirectory and tried to compile

one of the programs just to see what would happen.

The linker does not find the functions contained in libjpeg.a. There are two possible reasons: - you have not installed the jpeg library on your system, may be only the "development files" libjpeg.a libjpeg.la. In many systems they are different from the "user files" which enable only to run a third party program compiled elsewhere. This has to be done independently of gpc / grx, and is detected only when trying to link a program which really uses some functions in this library.

- you have not edited the pascal/grx.pas unit import file (and presumably the similar graph.pas contained in the bgi sub directory). Then line 55 contains {$.L jpeg} you should remove the dot to uncomment it {$L jpeg} (and similarly for other graphical libraries). This is done automatically if you use the configure script at the root level, but you must do it manually if you edit manually makedefs.grx and then run make -f makefile.x11
