Ah - I was wrong, sorry. The string addition is optimized, but it is done on a temporary variable, and the assignment to that guy is *not* optimized.
Maybe this can be changed ... I will have a look at that. (But not now.)
(* By the way: Good news for all friends of schemata! They might be finished (except, of course, bugs) this week ... *)
