Hi, all. As a follow-up to my near disaster with Bob and the potpourri, one of you Chatters sent me this email, which I thought read like a good idea to have these items on hand in the case of an emergency poisoning. Having said that, I was wondering if any of us would even know what to have for first aid equipment for any of our pets and how to use the items. The best I have on hand is my Cornell "Book of Cats" book, which I consult often. Even in the case of this poisoning, the book gives a chart on the kind of remedies for certain poisons, but I didn't know what the nature of the simmering potpourri was to know precisely what I would do to counteract the effects. The vets said that this substance is caustic to cats. I know what that means but I know I didn't have anything like charcoal tablets on hand, and I doubt I'd know what dosage to use. But depending on the substance any of these items might be the wrong thing.
Even when I called the ASPCA poison hotline I still didn't get much help in the way of counteracting the effects of the potpourri. I get the im-pression that the vets really don't want us owners trying to treat our animals but would prefer us to get to the hospital.
No need for discussion, just an aside. Pat
Give you cat charcoal tablets (get at health food store asap). Also, yoghurt, and colloidal silver; all at 2 hour intervals.
