Hi Pat and All,
I just don't have room for the Gene things, so I have sort of gotten over those. That, and the increase in price in Gene made me much less likely to buy more.
Do you mean that their original retail value is too much to continue buying more or do you mean that their resale value has increased thereby making them less attractive for you to continue buying?
Just can't afford the original retail price. The dolls used to sell for $60 and now they are over $100. Pretty, but I just can't do it.
The lounge kitties are Mattel. Here is a sneak peek photo posted on the Barbie Collectibles board. They are also featured in the latest Barbie Bazaar.

I think I will get the one in black. If I had more discretionary money, I would get both. I think they are darling, and the chairs are so cute.
Keep up the conversation guys. I have really been enjoying peoples opinions. Maybe we should get ourselves organized as well, and have a little list garage sale. Since many of us seem to be weeding out things. What if we set a date a month or so from now, and everyone post their FS lists on one day? That would motivate people to sort, and I really like to sell to list people. I can take less, knowing that I won't have any problems. What do you think?
Kathy M.
P.S. I would be willing to keep track of the date and post reminders.

Hi, all! I've been thinking about all this & during 2003, Barbies I bought were few & far between & then mostly playline like the new Fairytopia & Target or Grocery store seasonal lines. I've bought a few FR dolls; so elegant! I've actually started on Tonner with one each of the RTW Career Tyler, RTW Mei Li, RTW Esme & am still looking for the original RTW Sydney. I also got the Tonner Club Fashion Jane and the Bathing Beauty Brenda Starr so I'm ready to dress those dolls... Can't wait for Matt-I ordered the redhead (like my son). I've bought Integrity playline dolls-love the African Legends, Yue Sai Wa Wa dolls and indulged in a couple of Clea Bella dolls & outfits. Only bought ONE Gene this year-the CocaCola Wave doll. We'll see what 2004 brings, but I doubt that Mattel will get much of my dolly money again.

Sounds good to me... Melissa
My fav. Jason doll received last year was the blonde Chic Escape, liked everything about her from her cute blonde curly locks to her polka dot bathing suit & her assess.
I like my play Integrity dolls, ( you get so much for the money ) my silkstones, My new Brenda Starr, My Tyler with the long curly hair dressed in the long pink silk skirt & pink sweater set. But really also like, from the newest Happy Family grandparent set...you can get them separate now instead of with the kitchen... & I love the black grandfather with his salt & pepper curly hair & sweet, yet kind of sophisticated looking face. The Grecian Barbie is really great looking in person & love that hairdo ( but haven't gotten her) I want to get the Kitty lounge dolls this year & don't know what all yet.
as to Resolutions, I wish I could sell some dolls but am afraid to use Ebay after all I've been reading & I know it requires a lot of effort to sell & send dolls as I see what a friend, who does this, goes thru. So I'd like to simply show off what I do have ( & it's a lot) must get organized.
Also have resolved to personally try to look better as I've been letting this slide. Need to lose a few lb. & fit better into the new clothes I bought. There's been such good deals this year. Tho I usually am not into designers, I bought a pr. of Ralph Lauren slacks that were $85 & after all the sales & coupons, were in the low 20's..they look so good & are of a great material & cut. I'm trying to convince myself to do away with washed out , crummy looking clothes even if they are otherwise basically in good shape. Holey underwear, stretched out nightclothes, clothes not worn in 2 years, run down shoes...well you know how it is.

Don't let anything I've ever said about eBay deter you from using it. It's got to be the best method for continually thinning out collectibles that I've ever come across. Beats waiting to do yard sales when the season is warmer, beats having to load up stuff to take to the flea market and it beats the alternative which is to do nothing at all while the stuff clutters up and detracts from seeing what we've amassed.
I'm watching the TLC "Clean Sweep" New Year's Day marathon and am constantly grateful I've gotten into the habit of trying to unload stuff before it really does take over. I'm a piker compared to many of the featured homes undergoing their clean sweeping.
My biggest problem with my collecting is that now I've discovered what I'm doing and it requires everything needing be out in the open. And I just don't have space where I can spread out all of these dolls. One thing I've promised myself is if I don't have a plan for a doll and it can't fit into the collection immediately, it doesn't get purchased--no matter how gorgeous. The Greek doll I've had planned for since I saw the promo pics. I'm almost thinking I want her to become the predominant face to model all of my fashions, but then I'd have a very boring collection. Candis and her busty friends do make for excellent evening gown models.
I'm thinking our own CandiChat Clean Sweep will be quite interesting if we really do pull it off. Back to my digs downstairs... Pat Brown
Pat, do you know where I can find a pic of the AA grandparents? Your description sounds so interesting!

ARE YOU KIDDING? OVER $100??? My word, I can't even give away the old stuff that I bought for $69 for a minimum of 50% of the original price. Are the fashions that much more interesting now? After 1998, the fashions got to be less than inspired and I couldn't see continuing the collection. I did buy Madra and one of her fashions, but discovered that I have fallen out of love with the exaggerated eyes on all the Genes. I have a slew of older Genes and fashions and have not begun to tackle putting them on eBay. I'm thinking I might donate them to some doll museum--if I can find one that is interested in fashion doll collections. Does any one here know of some such museum that exists or is going exist?

Obviously, I think this is an excellent idea because I, too, much prefer selling to List folks first. And the idea of keeping us motivated while we clean out our collections is big help. I am sure many of us have collections that overwhelm us and having fellow collectors hold our hands is a comfort. Regards, Pat Brown

I think I will get the one in black.
Well, they are very interesting. The one in black is definitely a must-get. I see the fashions are not removeable. That's interesting, though I doubt the doll would be appropriate for redressing. Does anyone know if the Catwoman doll has a fixed fashion on her too? I gather I can't get that doll except at Barbie Collectibles or on eBay? Does anyone here have her?
If I had more discretionary money, I would get both.
Pardon me while I ROTFLOL! If I knew what it was like to exercise discretion with my dolly dollars I wouldn't be in the pickle I'm in now with liquidating dolls. Is there some drug I can take that will make me recognize when to curb my doll desires? Or do I just have to let go, let dolls and move on to my next eBay listing? It's a curse I tell you--a CURSE!
