Hi All, Lots of the upper end dolls have their clothes sewn on, and I don't mean just a stitch to hold the fashion in place. I don't mind with the Mackie dolls, as those I don't plan on redressing ( even though I have seen some cool redresses of those by Mikelman, and like I have more than one of those!) After Kevin mentioned the My Fair Lady dolls, I had to go look, as I could have sworn those were removeable. The Ascot one has snaps, but the pink gown from the last scene is sewn on as tight as can be. Never took that one off! It is a pet peeve of mine for most dolls, and a weird fetish I have in my OOAK work. Most OOAK people sew the fashions on for a tight fit, and I consider that cheating for me. LOL Sometimes I make myself crazy making a fashion that comes off. I have only done three dolls that the clothes were non removeable. Two of those were the metal mesh dresses, that I just couldn't figure out how to manage it, so there was only 1 made of fabric. For me it is a throwback to Mattels vintage years where they made these wonderful clothes that fit perfectly and could be changed at will.

Thanks for the info. I did spend most of my childhood with Babs. In the late sixties my friends and I played Barbies until we were in seventh grade! We could have cared less about boys, LOL. I bought the Grand Entrance Barbie first addition and got it for $19.99 At KayBee. I only bought her because I really liked the new one in peach. But now when I see the new doll I am having second thoughts - mostly about putting out the money. I am stunned that you said her clothing was sewn on !!! Where at? I've never heard of any clothing stitched to any dolls except obviously cloth ones. Please let me know - she may be going back on a rail, ha ha. ----- Original Message -----

Hey guys, I'm just plain aggravated with this problem... lol... So, while I'm griping - how about jewelry that is sewn on! I mean, I buy the darn doll just to get the outfit, the jewelry being an important part of the outfit's appeal, and it can't be removed! I've rethreaded some of the necklaces, but haven't yet had luck finding clasps that are small enough, so the results are less than perfect. Sigh... Hi Robin, The jewelry is almost as annoying as the clothes! Try making some clasps from wire. I use a 24 gauge wire. Form a hook with your needle nose pliers, and then put a loop after that. Make jump rings by wrapping the wire multiple times around the end of your needle nose pliers and then slip off and cut the rings apart. If you need pics, let me know, and I can probably draw some. What you come out with is a clasp VERY similar to the ones on vintage Barbs jewelry.

Thanks so much, Kathy. I just hate not being able to use the jewelry so I'll give that a try. Robin Mroczko mroczko@verinet.com wrote: Hi Robin, The jewelry is almost as annoying as the clothes! Hi all,
I just cannot get over the fact that Babs would ever have anything sewn on. I been with Barbie most of my life and never knew that. I do have the pink May Fair Lady - now I'll have to get her check her out. Why do they do this?????? By the way, I got my Grande Entrance doll off the shelf and tried to check her out but the bos is sealed on each side. She is definately going back to Kay Bee - they told me I could get store credit as I don't have the receipt but that is fine with me. She really wasn't a "Must Have" Sorry, I forget who said her clothes were sewn on - I still can't believe it. And now My Fair Lady in Pink!! She had a special meaning to me also.
