I still have this "Look of '94" doll. I think she was always referred to as the Catsuit Candi because she came in a one-peice, black leotard. But the doll you describe--I don't recall it being a boxed doll sold with that outfit, but I do recall the outfit. Was out of the Couture Line, I think. I have that outfit, too. Sometimes I think I need to make room and am tempted to sell ALL of my "vintage" Candi stuff, but then I rethink the dolls' importance to my fashion doll collection.
A couple of months ago I put 3 not-so-favorite Candis on consignment and they got lost, stolen or given to a charity. I put ones on that I didn't have a strong attachment to them--I already knew they wouldn't fetch their original value. A sad fact of most of the older Candis I have. So their greatest value is what I perceive is their importance to my education on fashion doll history. Do any of the CandiChatters have most, if not all, of the Candis beginning with Ms. Hamilton's ultra-limited dolls with all the fancy beading? I have one of the early Candi dolls by Hamilton Toys, I think it was "The Look 94". She is an African American doll with brunette hair. I think she came in a two piece suit with a white jacket and orange skirt. She's been redressed, so I don't remember. Her arms are bent at the elbow. I didn't have too much luck afterwards getting Candi because of the problems Hamilton Toys ran into (don't remember the details).
My collecting picked up with the Mikelman involvement with Integrity Toys. I have the "Gold Dusted AA doll", and the AA "Santa Baby" doll.
My collecting of Integrity toys dolls started with the open mouth Janay doll. I have the first Royal Heritage Wedding set. Collecting of Integrity dolls picked up considerably with Jason Wu's involvement. I like working with the playline dolls for customizing because of the price and quality.

Hi, Pat & all! I only have 2 of the earlier Candi dolls. I also have the '94 Catsuit Candi with bent arms & one in a black gown that I got off ebay. I would have liked to have the old one with the polka dots & roses, but missed my chance at the '99 Barbie Convention because I wasn't prepared to pay $80 for her. Oh, well... most of my collection is the Mikelman/Hamilton era and of course, some of the new Integrity ones. Wasn't that impressed with the Christmas line after Mikelman even tho' the fellow who painted them (can't remember his name) does good stuff. I'm like so many, first heard of Candi thru the mag. ad when Mikelman was designing them & Lizzie was selling them...I still have an old email of hers verifying a doll I bought from her in Oct. of '97. There were lots of 'bad' things connected to trying to get a Candi doll then. people lost money & it was either Lizzie's fault or Helena H'.s , we never could figure who was the culprit here. Then there was the Paul D. / H. Hamilton feud where each was blaming the other for the same thing. . Then Helena signs up with another company & that was the Bullwinkle dolls which never materialized & something happened to the Betty Page dolls. It's a near miricle that any of us stick with it & lasted thru it...but did so because of the love of the Candi dolls, but she definetly has a checkered past. Pat H. in Al.
It is a miracle--or maybe madness... ----- Original Message ----- From: Pat Hawkins jhawkins1320@charter.net To: Bradford ebradfrd@crosslink.net Cc: Pat Brown nqsqurtz@staffnet.com; Candi Chat List candichat@dolls.de Sent: Sunday, January 27, 2002 11:46 PM Subject: Re: Memorable Candi Collecting Moments

Hi Melissa, Just wondering if you bought any of those early Mikelman Candi fashions such as Summer Sun, Leatherette, Pretty in Pink, etc. I missed out on those but they look great. I would love to see those outfits on Candi! I also would love to see the early Candi Couture dolls with the beaded outfits, I saw one in a magazine, it was lovely!
