Hi All, Well, as for favorites, that is really easy. I am madly in love with the Fashion Royalty dolls. I love the quality. It reminds of the reason I fell in love with Gene dolls, and my ongoing love of vintage. Lots of little details made in such a way that they never look cheap. Nice price point, and I like the smaller size. I just don't have room for the Gene things, so I have sort of gotten over those. That, and the increase in price in Gene made me much less likely to buy more. As far as next year, I am sure there will be more things ordered in the FR line. I think I will buy one of the lounge kitties, and I know I will get one of the Princess of Greece dolls to play with. She looks like she has such a pretty face. In general, I am not buying much Barbie stuff. I liked the look of the Kate Spade doll, but I just don't think most of the Barbie dolls are worth the $70.00 or so she is supposed to retail for. I never know what sort of sales I will find, but I almost never pay full price, except for playline. So there is always a thing or two that makes it way into my things that I didn't plan for. And to add to the question. How about the worst things coming out? I thought Mattel couldn't make anything uglier than the Flavas dolls, but have you seen the new Kellys? Horrible things with big heads. They have lost all their cuteness. I had been buying quite a few of those, but not anymore if that is what they will look like. Sigh, trust mattel to ruin a good thing.
So who's next?

Hi,
I admit that I bought only a few Barbies this year and I think in 2004 I will just buy one or two silkstones, not more. I loved the Candis of Jason Wu and so I´m collecting now the FR dolls which are of very high quality and I´m lucky to have nearly all of them :-) I´m looking forward for Exotica and the new asian girl. My last buy was a Momoko from Rudi in Taiwan and soon I will geht my first Susie. At the pictures she looks great.
I started to buy some 16" dolls also like Tyler and Gene. I fell in love with the new Brenda Starr and have preordered two of them but missed out the great Bathing Beauty.
Happy new year Petra

Do you mean that their original retail value is too much to continue buying more or do you mean that their resale value has increased thereby making them less attractive for you to continue buying?
As far as next year, I am sure there will be more things ordered in
the
FR line. I think I will buy one of the lounge kitties,
Okay, are these Lounge Kitties Integrity dolls or Mattel dolls?
and I know I will
get one of the Princess of Greece dolls to play with.
Oh, this doll's promo pics look like she will be a fast seller. And I'm definitely going to get a few, if the doll lives up to pictures. I don't think Mattel has ever created a more stunning sculpt AND hairstyle on one doll. I love Mackie's contributions to Mattel sculpts. I sure wish he could inspire some more hairstyles other than straight and long or sort of curly and long. I've been intrigued by the birthstone dolls but can't get psyched because the hairstyles bore mes.
And to add to the question. How about the worst things coming out? I
thought Mattel couldn't make anything uglier than the Flavas dolls, but have you seen the new Kellys? Horrible things with big heads. They have lost all their cuteness.
I saw these Kelly dolls for the first time yesterday and thought certainly the doll had an exchange of heads with the Fly. I'm not a huge fan of the Bratz line or the My Scene dolls so I wouldn't care for mini Bratz on Kelly dolls. But I have discovered this year that the Bratz line does have a hold on pre-teens. I must say, with the face that looks like it's had a major attack of collagen to the lips, I'm going to have issues. I think the face pushes pout to an unglorious extreme. I guess it must be my age...
I don't think the Flavas have much appeal to anyone. Wonder what got Mattel willing to even try marketing that line?
TTYL, Pat Brown
Could not agree with you more, Kathy. The new Kelly dolls are horrid. I can't stand them!! I have always been a huge Kelly fan too so I hope Mattel pulls their head out of you-know-where and gets that cute lil doll back on track. I ask you, who the heck do they listen to when they make these decisions to change something that's not even broken? Certainly not their customers, that's for sure. Bizarre, to say the least but then again, you can always count on Mattel for bizarre business decisions. LOL

Just thought I would mention I'm trying to sell some of my dolls on ebay so I can buy more dolls. LOL!! My seller name is Janeecat1944. I've only got 3 Barbies listed right now, but I'll have more later. If there is a particular one you are looking for, I might have her in my closet. Just let me know. The FR dolls are moving in. LOL!!! Jan ***************

I must admit that my silkstones are my #1. However, the FR dolls are catching up. LOL!! In fact, I just ordered Purple Factor, and I had promised myself I wouldn't get her. I just had to have the dress. I might end up selling the doll though. I'm getting into Tyler and Sydney too. I don't have much room for the larger dolls, so I can't buy many. Oh, I have 5 Tiny Kitty's too. She is such a sweet doll. I've started selling some of my boxed Barbies on ebay so I can buy these other dolls. LOL! Jan in TN **************************

Hi Everyone,
Yes, it's nice to see more talk on CandiChat :-)
My fave dolls during 2003 have been Fashion Royalty, My Scenes, Jan McLean Lollipop Porcelains, and Susie.
For 2004, am hoping to add to my Mackie Collection and the Jan McLean Porcelain Lollipop Series.
Am hoping to add more Fashion Royalties and Susies that come out in 2004. The Susies are real cute in person and so much fun to pose. Fashion Royalties are my favorite. Will also keep my eyes open for new Candi Girls.
Will definately have to thin other dolls from my Collection in order to afford my expensive doll tastes. Am hooked on Gene and Tonner Repaints as well. Yikes !!! I'll be selling on Ebay in order to continue with this habit :-)
Have a great New Year Everyone :-)

Hi, all. Given that many of us are currently or going to be selling on eBay, would there be any benefit to us knowing who each other's user i.d.s are? I think this List posted user i.d.s moons ago, and I don't know if it did any of us any good to know who each of us were on eBay. Any way, just a question. But for any one's interest, if you come across opinionated as a user i.d., that's me. I'm trying to do more selling, but gadzooks! the prices have to be so cheap. And while I'm pondering getting involved with the dreaded PayPal, I still conduct auctions the old-fashioned way: I follow the closings and I send out my own emails and I take personal checks. I may think that be interactive with bidders makes for a more fun transaction, but so far I've discovered that my idea of fun does not conform with the current trend for little to no contact and being able to pay automatically. Bleah! I'm old and crabby and very opinionated! Hi, Pat:
(I owe you an email from before the holidays, will get to it as I settle down into life again).
Do you have a specific concern about PayPal? For what it's worth, I've avoided auctions that I would otherwise have been interested in but for the seller's lack of PayPal. I've bought a lot from eBay and truly appreciate a fast transaction. I have 100% positive feedback because I pay usually within minutes or hours of winning an auction, and I expect the seller to ship within 24 hours. I know... I'm fussy, but I like instant gratification and PayPal speeds things up. I always email the seller to confirm everything and appreciate the courtesy of an email from them.
So far, I only buy under my ID but I have sold under my husband's ID so I have had experience with PayPal buying and selling and I've never had a problem. Once I paid twice, lol (talk about eager!), but the seller refunded my second payment, so even that worked out okay. I am going to selling under my ID soon (I have a mint Sheer Glamour Sydney that seems to be hot right now) and I'll be using PayPal. Anyway, I was just wondering why you do not care for PayPal.
Best Robin

Bottom line: if I use PayPal I have to pay more fees on top of what I have to pay eBay. Or either I pass the fees on to a buyer. Which, I suppose, is the price a buyer pays for that immediate gratification ( I get my immediate gratification when I submit a bid--even if I don't win the auction. Guessing what the winning bid is going to be is fun for me. I get a real bang out of seeing final values on auctions where I'm bidding). But if I buyer has to pay 90 cents, at minimum for a postal money order plus the cost of the stamp and an envelope, I guess it stands to reason they could pay me for the privilege of my providing PayPal. There are certainly the pros and cons of implementing PayPal. If I decide that my everyday lifestyle is going to be about using eBay to liquidate my collection more thoroughly, then the expediency of PayPal to me may become very appealing. But I just hate having to get involved with one more party in the business of my selling off my stuff. I love capitalism, but my auctions do not fetch huge profits--if any. And if I get involved with adding PayPal as a feature to my auctions, then small-ticket items are more of an aggravation for me to list. And even small-ticket items may have some worth to a doll collector.
I use PayPal to pay for auctions I win. But you know what? I always feel a twinge of remorse, or guilt or some odd misery when I use PayPal. I don't know why--it's a feeling I can't begin to articulate. But as long as a seller offers the feature, I take advantage of it because the seller clearly has offered the choice because he wants to get paid quickly and get the stuff out fast, too. Why would I bother dawdling with paying a person when they've gone to the trouble and expense of including PayPal in their auction? Seems like an insult to that seller if I don't pay him immediately using PayPal.
When I consider bidding on an auction I don't care if PayPal is offered. I'm always taken aback when I read auctions that say they ONLY do PayPal. But to each his own. Money is money. Oh, yes, there's one other consideration I would make for PayPal that I just learned this weekend. I understand that there has been concern over counterfeit money orders and cashier's checks and PayPal almost eliminates this possibility. Someone told me this weekend that they had heard that is why PayPal was created because of this counterfeit problem that I guess was at its worst about 3 years ago. I don't know if this is true.
Okay, so call me crazy. I'll probably enter the 21st century and PayPal begrudgingly, but I'll get there. But I won't do it willingly. Do I sound like an old, crusty senior citizen? Cuz I haven't mentioned lately I'll never grow old! pat Brown

I'm the same as you Pat. I do personal Emails and accept personal cheques. Guess we are both old fashioned. hahaha I think I will have to do the PayPal thing though, but the fees seem to be real high when changing to an PayPal money accepting account. PayPal charges Canadians more. Haven't sold on Ebay in months, so it may be a little different.
I'm totally interested in the Garage Sale for the people in this Group :-) Would definately get me motivated to do some Winter/Spring sorting and hopefully find some dolls to add to my collection :-)
I'd even be willing to do TRADES.
My ebay ID is arctic-fox
Although, I don't have anything up for auction at the moment, but you can check my feedback :-)
Will talk later,

Pat Brown
Did we work out if it's just Candi related items - or all kinds of fashion dolls etc???

Will talk later,
Diane

Hi All, I see no reason why we can't do all kinds of dolls. Everyone here collects more than one kind, and I am sure we all have all different kinds of things to unload. I am looking at February 7th and 8th. Everyone can post their lists that weekend. You can set your own policies. For me, I will be accepting checks, MOs, and trades. I will continue to post reminders to prompt everyone to get ready. I think this will be fun.

O.K., time to answer my own question. <Wink>
2003 Favorites 1) Hands down, numero uno, the Fashion Royalty line, particularly Adele! The Mauve Absolue Veronique was really gorgeous as well. Unbelievable quality, affordable pricing, great value, exquisite dolls and fashions! Good thing for Mattel that they don't manufacture these in hgh numbers. LOL The rest of my picks in no particular order are: 2) Basic Candis, especially Sunkissed, White Russian, and Red Russian. Really lovely dolls, and by Jason Wu again. Boy, this guy is talented! 3) Brunette Brilliance Mackie Barbie: I've always had a fondness for the Mackies and this doll seemed to be of a higher caliber in design and quality than some of the others Mackie has done in recent years. 4) The Raider Barbie and Ken giftset: If for no other reason than we saw a hunkier and sexier version of Ken. 5) Waltz Barbie and Ken giftset: I know it was a slow seller that got heavily discounted later on but I still really liked this set to put next to last year's Tango set. 6) Lucy Gets A Paris Gown and Lucy L.A. At Last dolls: Hey, it's Lucy. I always love Lucy! 7) Wizard of Oz Kelly and Tommy set and Kelly Nostalgics set: Loved em when they came out and may love em even more now that Mattel's gone and uglied out their Kelly head molds. 8) Tonner's Esme: Double Take, Wild Orchid, Mesmerizing, you name it, I love this doll! 9) OOAKs: Although I havn't bought as many as in previous years, I still will always love OOAKs, repaints, and OOAK fashions. The level of talent and creativity out there is amazing (and many times better than that of the in-house design teams at the doll companies) although you have to steer clear of a lot of dreck at the same time. Probably my favorite OOAK purchase was a set of Kellys done up as mini Bob Mackie dolls from his original series of 10 Barbies. Nothing cuter than a mini Neptune or Queen of Hearts next to her big sister.
2004 Picks Fashion Royalty line Badgley Mischka, Kate Spade, Kelly Witches set, Tommy Elvis set, Bob Mackie 45th Anniversary Caucasian and African American, Lounge Kitties, Flintstones Kelly & Tommy set, Scooby Doo Kelly & Tommy set, Diana Ross, and Catwoman (Can ya tell I like Kelly and Tommy dolls? LOL) Esme by Tonner Violet Waters by Ashton Drake OOAKS!!
That's it for me!

It's been really quite until lately when things have picked up somewhat so here's another log to toss on the old chat fire.
What were your favorite dolls of 2003? Can be Candis, Fashion Royalty, Barbie, Tyler, Gene, Kitty Collier, Alex, Ann Estelle, playline, collectible line, whatever!
Then, what dolls are you looking forward to in 2004?
Should be fun to see everyones' opinions. Enjoy!
