Hi, I saw that the Jan, Feb, Mar, & Apr dolls were out, so I had been hunting for them. Surprisingly, instead I found Sept, Oct, Nov & Dec in an Ethnic version. I had no idea there would be another face mold used for the Birthstones until I saw them for myself on the store shelves! I don't know if there's Ethnic versions available for the other months, because the last 4 months of the year are the only ones I saw. I wonder if this is some sort of "record" for Barbie, where the same gown (only different colors) is used on the most variety of faces/hair colors? Crystal
Hi Crystal and All,
I did want to try to get all of the Birthstone dolls that I liked but I only have the Ruby which was my Mom and Dad's birthstone. I had put a few on layaway at Walmart, the Peridot (spelling?), the pearl and two Emeralds but didn't pick them up because I thought it would be alot of money to get that many. You said you saw the March doll and that is the one that I want beacuse that is my Birthstone. How long ago was it that you saw the other dolls including March??

Hi all, I have heard that the Jan thru April are out. My Walmart is hardly getting ANY of them in. I think they get two of each one. I love in a town of 160,000 people, so you can be sure, if you are not standing there when they put them out, you won't get them. I was going to pick up the April one for my B-day, but I have yet to see them. You can order them off the Walmart web site, but by the time you add postage, I think they are a little pricey. ( for what they are) I am sooo cheap. LOL
Some people are also finding the african american versions. I bet some of these are really pretty, but we never get AA dolls around here. I am getting on the really grouchy side anyway, as we never have shows, and the only doll shop for 100 miles is closing this month. I am NOT happy. Guess I will be buying a lot fewer dolls. Sigh. Wouldn't be so bad, but you can't trust Mattel not to change dolls from the prototypes, and I won't buy them without seeing them in person. Since I can't do that, I guess I won't be buying much. More money for the Fashion Royalty dolls! Since I don't mind buying Integrity sight unseen.

Hi Kathy & all! You really must be in the "boonies". Even my Walmart has only had about one each of the Birthstone dolls & I haven't seen Jan-Apr yet nor have I seen any AA ones. For $25, I haven't been impressed enough to buy any of them. Topaz was the prettiest, but it's not mine. Turquoise is mine, but I'm not really fond of that one either. I'll save my money for Integrity dolls, too... Melissa

Not really the boonies, but just about the last place on earth to get ANYTHING. The only thing that seems to invade here on a regular basis is Starbucks. Don't get me started on that one.

No, Australia is the boonies where dolls are concerned. Trust me. Or maybe 'the sticks'! Which is our version of the boonies. In anycase I haven't been tempted by a doll for ages which is ok. There just isn't anything getting to me - I am even getting rid of some dolls cos I don't have the space - which is another story - one you are all familiar with - I feel sure.
And anyway I have been bitten by the paper arts bug - y'know stamping, altering books, domino jewellry, etc etc so it's just as well. Well I have to have some kind of addiction!

Hi Melissa,
Boy do I agree with you. I bought one Ruby Birthstone Barbie for $24.99 and had put some on layaway but cancelled it - I can buy a Veronique for $26 to $29!!!! And look at the quality!
Do you collect the Integrity Line?

Hi, Karla, Yes, I collect Integrity dolls from Playline to Candi to Fashion Royalty. I have some really old ones, some of the Mikelman ones, and of course, several generations of Jason Wu ones. I may have almost as many Integrity dolls as I do Mattel. Well, maybe... Melissa

Well we used to have doll shows, but they were not well attended. Even when we hosted the '94 Barbie doll convention few people from our own area came but rather from all the corners of the world. Needless to s ay, we don't have the shows anymore. We had 2 good little dolls shops but neither carry the special Barbies anymore. That 's cause Mattel shot themselves in the foot when they over produced dolls which should have been less available , charged too much for them & then placed them why down on sale which then meant the little doll shop, since it was no Walmart, couldn't compete, got disgusted & got out of the business. We either get our dolls from Walmart or Toys R us or the one Target we have ( which isn''t that great in what dolls they carry ). All Walmarts are not created equal, they can put whatever they want on sale, whenever they want & the one in the next town doesn't have to follow suit. We are fortunate that the little Walmart near us, has a better selection of Barbies than the new super walmart in the next little town. I often buy the special Barbie online from someone...however, I don't buy that many any more Pat H. near to, but not quite in, B'ham Al.

Hi Pat and all, I think much the same thing has happened everywhere. The show at the Barbie convention here ( Denver) was pretty well attended, but no one is interested in having them reguarly. I would be thrilled with just once a year! Our Target and Walmart have sort of gotten out of the collectible lines. You can find the Princess of the world series ( these are really nice, and worth the money, so of course they sell) and a few others, but there will be no where to find the upper end ones. I can order if I want, but then I have to add shipping, and with Mattel prices, I frequently don't think the dolls are worth it. I would much rather buy the Integrity lines. Oh well, one of these days Mattel may figure it out. I did hear the Mattel is going to do an Asian silkstone next year. Haven't seen the pics yet, but that may be one to have.
Anyone here gotten Chic Escape ( Fashion Royalty) yet? I have been seeing quite a few pics posted around, and she sure looks cute. I may succumb. Did get the wonderful Fashion Royalty fashions last week, and if you haven't gotten these, they are worth EVERY penny. Some of the nicest things I have ever seen. The quality and detail are similar to the Gene things. Everything fits, is lined, and the accessories are to die for. These fashions will fit Candi as the the FR line is similar shaped. The dress is sold out in many places, but look around. Some may still have them.

Hi, Kathy! I haven't gotten my Chic Escape yet, but the one Jason had at the luncheon was really cute in her blue polka dot bathing suit & behind the shades she has BLUE eyes. I can't wait to get mine from Suzanne... Melissa

I saw a picture of the March doll & to me she is the most beautiful...in light blue with her blonde hair & pink lipstick so I can see why you'd want her. About a few weeks ago. one of our Walmarts had 10 of them , all but my birthday, Oct. But I don;t believe I'll get one even tho they are so beautiful Pat H.
