Actually, I do not like Colin's outfit at all. It is hard for me to appreciate the style because for such an expensive outfit I like to have details that show true skill (i.e. beautifully fitted garments, tailoring, etc). The best part is the built in corselette which laces in the back. I think it they should have done an empire waisted bodice but fitted with princess seams instead of just using a strip of fabric with a bow around it. I plan on making her a suit but I have been very busy working on 11.5" fashion doll clothing lately (in addition to everything else). You all will be seeing a few of my doll designs very soon and I have plans for a lot more too!

It's funny about these CED dolls. From my perspective, aside from just being a staunch supporter, I have to admit, collectors seem to have very strong reactions to the outfits and the dolls themselves. The facial screenings have received mixed reviews, the outfits seem to leave collectors unphased, and the zeal with which collectors seem to engage in redressing the dolls with their own sewn fashions is quite commonplace. As I have never tried to design a doll fashion, I can understand the versatility of the mannequin these dolls provide for the fashion doll coutiere is a lot of fun. For me, the historical value of the dolls suffices.
Kathy or others, have you encountered controversial discussions on any of the remake boards, with the burgeoning business of taking paint of faces of dolls and collectors redesigning dolls? I'm gathering that this is becoming a somewhat hot topic? Hi Pat, Not a peep about it on our boards. Where are you hearing this? Would love to pass it on. Also, I would love to see a pic of these CED dolls you are talking about. I rarely get to see other dolls as we have almost no doll shows in our area, and I don't get any other doll magazines.
As far as removing paint and repainting, I see no problem in it. The original maker recieved their money for the doll, and the artist has a right to do as they please. For many dolls it is a definete improvement! LOL I also understand the rage for the handmade clothes. At the price point of many of the outfits ( especially the 15" ones) you can buy an artist made outfit with more flare and quality and have something no one else has. And on the Barbie things, as Randall has pointed out, the quality isn't that great at all. Of course, I may be a " little biased" LOL as the remake things is my passion.

The CED dolls' website: if you do a web search for DLD International Dolls or maybe even CED you'd find some photos of the current year's 4 dolls and outfits. The problem is, the photos seem a little dark to me and I don't think makes the a very good presentation of the dolls.
The best showing of the dolls was in last year's Dolls magazine Toy Fair issue. The dolls were not taken to Toy Fair as they were sold directly from the artists, but they did unveil the dolls in advertising in this particular issue. I do know that in the May (the newest on the stands) issue of Dolls, there is an article about fashion doll sewers and what they've created to accommodate the size of the 15" and plus size dolls. Cara, one of the DLD dolls is modeling fishnet hosiery. And I think the person did a repaint on the doll, too, because the eyes looked brighter to me.
I guess that my perception of "controversy" is my imagination and I can't go off what I read on one board. It just may be that board's particular topic of interest and not reflective of other topics elsewhere. I agree with you, that once the doll is bought and paid for, a collector or artist has the right to do with the doll whatever they want.
What intrigues me about makeovers and repaints, is that the artist is seeing something in the original doll that was not there originally, but when they paint their style in the face, wowzer! what a difference from the original. Even I see that when I strip off paint on generic Barbies and start deedling with lips and cheeks. I haven't quite got eyes to inspire me. But I'm curious what I will find underneath the factory paint, so to speak. TTYL.

Hi all,
I just had one stupid question - what does CED mean?

They're the initials for each of the doll's names: Constance, Cara, Claire, Colin. The E is their middle name and the D is the last name for each doll. And honestly, I'm more into the jointing so I haven't commited the names to memory.
