Hi guys,
Why does Matell insist on glitter? I hate %#$* glitter! It's a mess. I'm ranting cos I bought one of those new birthday dolls and the dress was really pretty. It's lined, beautifully constructed, has snaps instead of velcro. Even the jewlry has a little s clasp so it can be removed. You would think Matell would stop when it does a fab job. NO! It had to sprinkle the whole thing with glitter. Grrrrrrrrrrr I soaked it, melted the glue and scraped it off, and finally ended up with a halfway decent dress, but it could have been a perfect if Matell would just let go of the damn glitter thing. I redressed Horse Riding Babs in it. Gave her a new do, too. Sorry for the rant. Here's the link. http://www.geocities.com/pa_nz3/Horse_Riding_Babs.html

Hi Robin and all!
I agree about the glitter 100%. I am sure the little girls think it is great, but as a mommy, I would be cussing it up one side and down the other. I always have a couple of bags of clothes I am adding to to give to a couple of the little girls in our playgroup, and to keep the moms from killing me, I never add the ones with glitter! Robin, I never thought to wash the glitter off. That would be great on the birthstone dolls. I think most of the dolls I have seen in that line are really nice, and I will probably pick up an April if I see her. May wash that glitter off too!

P.S. Love the subject line! LOL

Hi Kathy,
Which Birthstone dolls are you referring to that have the dreaded glitter. Were they the ones that Walmart is supposed to be selling?

Thanks Silvana, you and I both seem to love miniatures. :-) I gave my new Birthstone doll a haircut and I was so pleased with her because she came out looking a bit like your Sharon doll. I love Sharon's hair, she looks soft but sophisticated. I'll post pictures once I have mine redressed.

Hi Robin,
First, what a greaet job you did with Babs. She looks gorgeous and I LOVE those little settings! I really get irritated also when a nice FA dress or something has glitter all over it. They glitter everything and it drives me nutsy!! I am curious, where did you purchase a dress that had no velcro on it???

Wow the dress & doll are fab. but what a background...where did you get the chair & lamp? Pat H
Hi Pat, Thanks for your nice comment. The chair and sofa are from a place in Utah called Magals and the lamp is a repainted Gloria lamp. Robin Pat Hawkins jhawkins1320@charter.net wrote:Wow the dress & doll are fab. but what a background...where did you get the chair & lamp? Pat H

I have never seen any Gloria furniture offered in stores here in Alabama, but I have seen it in other stores in other states such as Value City, I believe it's called, in Lou. Ky. (It was at some low priced discount store ) It's very well made & has different pieces from anything I've seen in Barbie stuff & the price is low. I got a fabulous set years ago on my travels,, with the most excellant fireplace you've ever seen. It looks like black & white faux marble & is large emough to go in a Gene Scene as well a Barbie. The Gloria doll herself leaves a LOT to be desired.
Is Magals a store only in your area , does it have a website?
I got some fairly neat Barbie sized overstuffed chairs at JoAnn fabrics a few years ago, which were meant to be used as pincushions. I'm chair crazy , well actually any Barbie sized furniture crazy & find some at unusual places. I got a beanbag one & a couch meant for beanie babies & at a gift shop, there were these weird statues of languid looking ladies which also had chairs you could buy for them to languish in & I got a chair that reminds me of those papa san chairs so popular back awhile. I'm always on the lookout at cheap dollar stores or Big Lots & then of course at gift shops for such things Pat Hawkins
Hi, Pat: I've never come across locally sold Gloria sets either. I live in Pennsylvania. I had to buy mine off e-Bay. I have the fireplace you mention, it's a nice piece. I think I probably have the chair from JoAnns that you mentioned, I picked up a couple of them a few years ago and they were supposed to be pin cushions but I thought they looked like doll chairs. lol Magals is expensive, which is why I only have a couple of pieces from them (a birthday present to myself). Their site is http://home.att.net/~magals/ They are very nice people to deal with, excellent workmanship, quick service, trusting and trustworthy, etc. I wish I could afford to buy more of their furniture, but then part of the fun of collecting 1/6 scale accessories is finding them cheap, which usually means it was designed for other use, like your ladies chairs.
