did a make clean make CFLAGS="-O2" LANGUAGES=pascal make CFLAGS="-O2" pascal.install now works ok
In /usr/local/bin: gpc 94012 bytes gpc-bad 186982 bytes gpc.old 171724 bytes where gpc.old is gpc-980511 in gcc-2.8.0
