Subject: re: Doll & Teddy Bear Expo East
Hi, all!
I just got back from Expo East. It was much smaller this year; no Ashton-Drake, no Madame Alexander, no Cabbage Patch, no Susan Wakeen. BUT, I did get to see the new Butterfly Ring dolls. They are beautiful! Tasha is my all time favorite, followed closely by Koko. They actually do have crystal gems in their eyes & a butterfly-shaped stand. I got to see the Franklin Mint Twiggy doll which I thought looked better than her photos, though I'm not really into MOD. They also had a new vinyl doll of Lucille Ball! Tonner had the new Mei Li doll, friend of Tyler. She is very oriental with high cheek bones. He also had the new doll from the "For Better or Worse" cartoon, April Patterson. Cute for those who like toddler dolls. AND, I got to see the whole line of new Clea Bella dolls. She's VERY nice! Made of porcelite with joints that will let her lift her leg up over the "barre" when doing ballet. She comes in either ballet (en pointe feet) or theatre (fashion model feet) basic dolls, plus various dressed dolls that can also be bought costume only (like Brenda Starr). She has rather simple make-up, but the designer says that she expects doll artists to do her up themselves. Dress patterns will be available. Clea Bella also has "pop-out" arms as the designer is planning several arm sculpts so you can pose her in different poses. I was favorable impressed & I bet Juan could give her a gorgeous face... Browns Gallery will be carrying her amongst others. Is BG's Dollhouse on this list? They will have them, too, according to my flyer. I got to see all the bride dolls from the new book, "Here Comes the Bride", including a fabulous little old couple called, "Second Time Around".
Guess I've babbled enough for now...
