Hi all, I received a package from Suzanne a few days ago and wanted to tell everyone what I got. I got Feline Formality, Subtle Elegance Israeli Candi, Embassy Ball Mila, Future World Alysa, Flores Rosada Cover Girl, Tropical Splash Alysa, Embassy Ball Janay, Urban Reflections Janay amd 5th Avenue Fortuny in Coral. I was so excited when the package came and I could pull all of these beautiful dolls to out. Feline Formality is extremely good but I have to say a close second is Subtle Elegance. Actually I can't decide which one is better. I'll just say both are absolutely gorgeous in their own way. FF is a little on the hard side (She is such a snob, I just love her, LOL) and Subtle Elegance has a much softer look. Also, I was wondering if anyone who saw Giselle picked up on the fact that the lip liner was not dark at all, but a shade very close to her lips color?? Karla

Karla, Which doll are you referring to that has the lashes? (I had to chuckle imagining you taking dolls off the shelf, lining them up in the isle and inspecting them... lol. I've done that on occasion. Sometimes there's a barely susceptible difference that makes you think you got the best one of the lot.... lol). Went shopping this week. Got James Dean was on sale at TRU. Bought Frank Sinatra for his suit. His damn shirt was sewn on him (screech!). Got some doll furniture, handmade and upholstered (not plastic stuff) and blew my dolly budget, but I'm as contented right now as a newly fed baby with a pacifier. Hi all, Sure wish we sould get those Kari Michell outfits around here. I really like the look of those. I am sure they will not show up, as we get nothing new. Anybody want to trade something? I will make a custom doll or outfits for you if you want. Checked my K-mart yesterday, and they had absolutely nothing that was not Mattel, and not much of that. Might check the K-mart in the next town over, as sometimes they have different things, not sure why, but sometimes. Don't know why I am feeling so whiney, as I just got Feline Formality, and I have a Sterling Silver Rose on the way. I am surprised at this price on Gene

I thought I'd make a foray over to ebay to see what the prices are on Genes these days. Definitely still in the basement, if not through to the root cellar. There was a time, a couple of years ago that the Premiere Gene was fetching, easily $500. I was expecting to see this price to remain steady. But if I go by the one listing for this doll, the seller was willing to sell the doll for the "Buy It Now" price of $399. What a drop! She started the bidding at $49.99 and I guess bidders think they can beat the $399 price because no one took the offer. Has Ashton-Drake practically killed this doll line with their over-zealous over-production of newer dolls? Or has Ashton-Drake managed to cheapen the Gene image in ways I can't articulate? Then again, is it possible that the doll's genre is so limiting that other 15.5" dolls, like the Tonner dolls, relate better to collectors because of their current fashion statements? I just don't follow the doll trends as closely but from what I read on this List, Tonner's larger dolls do seem to have a greater appeal than the Genes. Is this correct? What is the perceived state of interest for Gene-line dolls? Pat Brown

Thanks Colin, Melissa, Elizabeth, Lunar, for your positive feedback. It's fun to share dolly play. Melissa, I don't recall where the suit Ares is wearing came from (some cheap thing I picked up when I first started collecting) but it has enough stretch in it to get it on Ares lovely body. The shirt beneath the jacket is sleeveless, so I think that helps accommodate his bulk. Actually, he looks awesome without the jacket, his arms are fabulous. The sad thing about Ares is that he is New Zealand born (as I am) actor Kevin Smith who died after a fall in February. He had been wrapping up filming in China and was preparing to return to NZ. Sad. Belle (my Bridal Boutique owner) is the Swedish Pin-Up Candi and she is wearing the Manhattan Gold outfit. I haven't had her out of her box in two years, so I cut and washed her hair and was pleased with the results. Both the doll and the outfit still look stunning imo. Belle's character is "a beautiful Swede who has been married seven times. She found that while weddings agreed with her, men did not. Most of her husbands were rich, so she accumulated enough money in divorce settlements to open up a bridal boutique where she indulges her passion for weddings while at the same time avoiding men." (lol) Elizabeth, where in Canada do you live? I'm in Canada somewhat often, and possibly may be moving to Toronto soon. If you want a doll from the States I'd be glad to smuggle it into Canada for you. (And there better be no snitches on this list! lol). Robin --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
