libgcc.a

I always wondered why the GPC distribution contained a different libgcc.a than the GCC distribution. I assumed that the GPC version had some extra stuff in it. However, it appears that the latest GPC version is incompatible with GNU C++. I've just spent all morning trying to make the GAWS package. Every time I tried to make any examples, I got heaps of linker errors. Eventually, in desparation, I replaced libgcc.a with the copy in GCC281b.ZIP. Suddenly all my linker errors dissappeared. I also note that the libgcc.a in the latest beta version of GPC is considerably shorter than the ones in previous versions. So what is the story with the GPC version of libgcc.a? thanks Russell BTW. I'm finally subscribed to this mailing list.

compile error of gpc-19980830

I installed the gcc-2.8.1 source tree and put the contents of the "p" directory of gpc-19980830 into the gcc-tree. Then I applied the patch, as given in the INSTALL file. After configuring with "configure --prefix=/usr" as suggested in "INSTALL" and "make LANGUAGES=pascal" the gcc-2.8.1 compiler starts to compile, but does not complete the full build. Instead it ends with the error message given below (screen dump). Is this a bug in the source code, or did I make a mistake? B. gpc bug on HPUX

Hello, Earlier I mailed a problem in compiling p/rts/filename.pas on HPUX 10.20 with egcs1.1b. After a replay from Frank Heckenbach (thanks!) I reduced the file to the following, and found a workaround. ================================================ filename-fout.pas unit FileName; interface uses gpc; implementation { const TStringSize = 2048; type TString = String (TStringSize); } function F : TString; begin end; end. ================================================== This program (executed in the rts directory) yields the following error on HPUX10.20: filename-fout.pas: In function `F': filename-fout.pas:11: warning: return value of function not assigned filename-fout.pas:11: internal error--unrecognizable insn: (insn 13 12 15 (set (zero_extract:SI (reg:SI 94) (const_int 32) (const_int 0)) (reg:SI 95)) -1 (nil) (nil)) ../toplev.c:1378: Internal compiler error in function fatal_insn Removing the comment brackets makes the internal error go away. gpc on Linux and HPUX10.20 (using egcs-1.1b)

L.S. When trying to create a binary for Linux and HPUX 10.20 of the latest gpc beta-release, using egcs-2.91.57 (19980901 (egcs-1.1 release)) I encountered the following problems. Using: ./configure --prefix=/opt/egcs --with-gnu-as --enable-shared (also without enable shared) and with both gcc version 2.7.2.3 or the egc-1.1 C-compiler On BOTH linux and hpux the file gcc/p/Makefile had to be changed to signal the use of egcs: Added -DEGCS to ALL_CFLAGS in Makefile With this change the Linux version works as advertised. It seems to be the combination of "asmname" (in the interface) and "inline" that causes this problem. I've made a test suite program for it, and until it's solved, I'll comment out the "inline"s in rtsstr.pas. gpc-19980830 bug

Hi all I have found a bug (at least an unwanted feature) in the last beta (19980830), when trying to compile the file rtsstr.pas contained in the distribution (directory p/rts). In this unit there are some inline functions (e.g. Strlen). When compiled without any optimisation option (-On), the function in simply not contained in the resulting rtsstr.o file, and no error message nor warning is issued. With -O it works fine. Of course it is somewhat contradictory to compile without optimisation and to include explicit inline functions. But at least the inline directive should be ignored in this case if this causes problems with the compiler, and a warning issued.
