StringUtils, FileUtils

Hi, in the current GPC version, I've included a StringUtils unit for general string handling routines (on a higher level than the built-in and RTS routines). Up to now, it only contains routines for a string hash table, but I'm planning to add some more routines. Perhaps some of you also have some routines to contribute (or features to request). Conditions for inclusion into this unit should be, IMHO: - Generally useful (not meant specifically for a certain program or something), - self-contained (not relying on an external library etc.), - new functionality compared to the existing routines (whereas the same or similar functionality under a different interface for compatibility purposes should go into other units, like GPCUtil for compatibility to `Turbo Power' units), - and, of course, compilable with the current GPC version, portable, bug-free, etc. ;-) The same goes for the FileUtils unit which has been there for some months already. operators pow and **

Hi all, It seems that operators pow and ** cannot be redefined in gpc. Is that expected ? Timestamp format and calculations?

Does it proof the DayOfWeek? What is leap seconds and how does one calculate with leap seconds? Does any one know of standard libs/rutines for doing calculations/manipulations with the timestamp, like calculating the day of the week or finding time between two timestamps, with corrections to the diffent length of months ect. compiling gcc/gpc on AIX

I have been attempting to compile gpc on AIX. I encounter this error: ld: 0711-781 ERROR: TOC overflow. TOC size: 67804 Maximum size: 65536 collect2: ld returned 12 exit status Apparently this problem is known, because gcc/p/Makefile includes: # f771 and cc1plus overflow the AIX TOC BOOT_LDFLAGS=-Wl,-bbigtoc and "-bbigtoc" is the ld option that relaxes the TOC limit. I can't find BOOT_LDFLAGS referenced anywhere below its definition. Could this be the problem? Thanks --Chris Ferrall P.S: Thank you, thank you, thank you for continuing to develop GNU Pascal. I had dreaded the thought of quitting Pascal because the demise of AIX Pascal was starting limit my work. It appears GPC might allow me to carry on - if I could get it installed.

enumerated types problem/question

First, I want to apologize for bombarding the list with some bad questions. I have been thrown on this job porting Pascal code from one platform/compiler to Linux/GPC and I am having a tough time with it. I am not sure exactly if this is a problem, or a feature of GPC, or a code problem on my end. In a nutshell, I have a makefile that runs through and compiles (but not links) Pascal source into the object files. I have fixed many inconsistencies between the compilers so far.... but this one is a bit stranger. So far it compiles source files fine up to one where I get this error: phileif.pas:1102: incompatible type for argument 1 of `Getcurlangphrase' This function is being called as such: GetCurLangPhrase(Asterisk, 2, AddrType(@SearchStr)); The Prototype for the function is: PROCEDURE GetCurLangPhrase( Phrase_Id : eSysMessages; Buf_Size : INTEGER; Phrase_Buf : AddrType ); And lastly eSysMessages is an enumerated type containing Asterisk from the call. OK.... The Function is declared in a file called sysutl.pas, eSysMessages is in a global.pas, and the call of GetCurLangPhrase is in phileif.pas. Now, sysutl compiles to object code with no errors or warnings as does global. And phileif.pas USES both global and sysutl with the UNITs being defined correctly. This compiles with an old non-standard compiler, but doesn't with GPC and I can't figure it out for the life of me. The odd thing is, I can comment the line out, and this will happen for other function calls where a value in an enumerated type sits in a function call. Has anyone seen anything like this? Or does USES work differently with gpc than with other compilers? Thanks for any help! Hi, everybody! This is to announce the first public release of GtkUnit. (No real version number by now, just the timestamp "20010228".) GtkUnit is a set of units, test programs and programs from the Gtk+ tutorial written in GPC to allow Pascal programmers to use a comfortable interface to the Gtk+ library. GtkUnit should compile and work successfully on every system supported by GPC with a working Gtk+ library installation. We (Eike and I) invite anyone to code their own programs and help us find out bugs, often due to typos during the port process. In fact, no automagic translator was used. The main web site of the Gtk+ port project is reachable at <http://www.swlibero.org/~nikke/gtkunit/>. In the future, this will contain the updated information about the project as well as pointers to projects based on GtkUnit (in case there are any;-)). I won't be reachable for 4/5 days, because I will be on a school trip, so write to Eike Lange <eike.lange(a)uni-essen.de> instead. So should I take this to mean, that in GPC, a pointer must point to the exact data type? Meaning a Pointer to a string40 cannot point to a string15 or point to any lesser string than a string40, basically?
