StringUtils, FileUtils

Hi, in the current GPC version, I've included a StringUtils unit for general string handling routines (on a higher level than the built-in and RTS routines). Up to now, it only contains routines for a string hash table, but I'm planning to add some more routines. Perhaps some of you also have some routines to contribute (or features to request). Conditions for inclusion into this unit should be, IMHO: - Generally useful (not meant specifically for a certain program or something), - self-contained (not relying on an external library etc.), - new functionality compared to the existing routines (whereas the same or similar functionality under a different interface for compatibility purposes should go into other units, like GPCUtil for compatibility to `Turbo Power' units), - and, of course, compilable with the current GPC version, portable, bug-free, etc. ;-) The same goes for the FileUtils unit which has been there for some months already. operators pow and **

Hi all, It seems that operators pow and ** cannot be redefined in gpc. Is that expected ? Hello, Maybe that is a known bug but I encountered a strange problem and don't know what happens. I reduced the example to these three silly files: --------------------- program tester; uses tester1; begin ImpSgnList.Init(8); end. ---------------------- unit tester1; interface uses tester2; var ImpSgnList:MList; implementation end. ---------------------- unit tester2; interface type MList = object constructor Init(ALimit: Integer); end; implementation constructor MList.Init(aLimit: Integer); begin end; end. ---------------------- The result of execution is as follows: tester.dpr: In main program: tester.dpr:5: Internal compiler error in `call_method', at objects.c:137 Please submit a full bug report to the GPC mailing list <gpc(a)gnu.de>. I use the following compiler version: Reading specs from /usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/sparc-sun-solaris2.8/2.95.3/specs gpc version 20010623, based on 2.95.3 20010315 (release) BTW: the same is with my another GPC version: Reading specs from /usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/i386-pc-solaris2.8/2.95.2/specs gpc version 20010121, based on 2.95.2 19991024 (release) I hope there is an explanation of this behavior, or if this is a new bug, there will be a way to correct it. Hello, I want equivalents for the following .Could any one help me out : -- swap --get/freeenvironmentstrings --exitproc, exitcode --constants like "fmclosed", "fmoutput" etc.. Otherwise are there any compiler directives to avoid the above (supported by delphi)? Is Class type supported by GPC ? Thanks and Regards Hari

We tried compiling gpc earlier this year but have been too busy for a while. This was the outcome: Problems compiling gpc 20010121 under Unixware 7.1.1 using gcc 2.92.2 and Skunkware 7.1.1B 1. rts wont compile /usr/local/src/gcc-2.95.2/gcc/p/rts/string.pas: In function `Memcompcase': /usr/local/src/gcc-2.95.2/gcc/p/rts/string.pas:226: Internal compiler error in `add_bound_info', at gcc2.95.2//gcc/dwarf2out.c:7376 solved by compiling with -g0. We can live without debugging. 2. Tried a simple program: Program Test; begin WriteLn('Hello'); end. gpc test.pas gave: UX:as: WARNING: /var/tmp/cc00027c.s:76:name already bound as global: init_pascal_main_program UX:as: WARNING: /var/tmp/cc00027c.s:77:name already bound as global: pascal_main_program Undefined first referenced symbol in file sys_siglist /usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/i686-UnixWare7.1.1-sysv5/2.95.2/libgpc.a(rts.o) UX:ld: ERROR: a.out: fatal error: Symbol referencing errors. No output written to a.out test.s shows init_pascal_main_program etc all repeated. Theo Carr-Brion

Pascal on UnixWare 7

We are looking for a Pascal compiler for SCO UnixWare V7. We tried compiling the Gnu Pascal compiler but it came up with various problems. Has anyone got it successfully working on UnixWare? Another possibility we would like to try is to compile our programs on Linux and use the lxrun emulator that allows you to run Linux programs on UnixWare. Has anyone had any experience of this working? Any information or hints would be gratefully appreciated. Theo Carr-Brion

range checking

Hello, Maybe that is a trivial question but I want to know whether there is a way to turn on/off range checking with GPC. Hi Frank, Peter: Now that gcc-3.0.1 is out, looked at libbackend.a which is an internal lib of gcc's OBJS and compared that with the list of OBJS in 2.95.3: (no guarentee the following is 100% accurate) Going from 2.95.3 to 3.01: These were droped: stupid.o getpw.o mbchar.o dyn-string.o These are added: diagnostic.o builtins.o haifa-sched.o regrename.o predict.o lists.o ggc-common.o stringpool.o simplify-rtx.o ssa.o bb.reorder.o dcc.o sched-vis.o sched-dcps.o sched-rgn.o sched-ebb.o params.o ( What started this train of thought was the idea that perhaps I could make a 2.95.3 version of libbackend.a and then try writing a makefile to compile gpc without recompiling gcc. Last step would be to try using 3.0.1 libbackend.a ). The lists above any help? Russ
