Comparision Cardinal/Integer Bug?

Hi Folks! I don't know whether it's a feature or a bug, I didn't find it on the list of known bugs so here is my report: Comparisions between Cardinal and Integer may fail, if the Integer value is negative. Though wouldn't it be good programming practice to individually and periodicly build peices of your code to make sure that your syntax and spelling is correct? I realize that this falls under different programming philosiphies, but coming from a BP 7.0 environment, it was extreamly easy to do to just check things out to make sure that everything was ok.

RTL does not build

Hello, I am having problems getting GPC 2.1 20020510 to install correctly. It compiles with no errors, but when I try to compile a program with it, I get numerous unresolved references when I try to use one of the builtin units. In this example, the unit is CRT. Hi all This announcement might be of interest to the Windows users. 1. I have just released v1.0 of my Delphi-compatible Win32 API import units (Messages and Windows). Get them here: http://www.gnu-pascal.de/contrib/chief/winapi/ 2. I have extended the excellent GPLed DevPascal IDE to support GPC. It was written originally for Freepascal, and it now supports GPC on Windows platforms. Get the binaries here: http://www.gnu-pascal.de/contrib/chief/win32/devpas_gpc_191.zip The original (Freepascal only) sources can be obtained here: http://www.bloodshed.net/devpascal.html If you want the updated sources (with GPC support), let me know, and I can make them available. Finally got it. In the end the problem wasn't in the list work at all. Way earlier in the program, I'd allocated memory for an array [1..x], then accessed it as [0..x]. On freeing the memory, I guess something funny was set up in the memory manager that came back to bite me way later. So... is there a compiler option I could have set that would have told me about this illegal memory access? well, now perhaps I can sleep. Toby

Installing GPC on HP-UX 11.0

Hi! I'm trying to install GPC on HP-UX 11.00 machine I've got GPC and gcc-core.2.95.x sources from the archive site and tried to build it. After several failures I've tried to build GCC only and then failed again. Then I've checked the GCC site at gcc.gnu.org and that is what it says: http://gcc.gnu.org/install/specific.html#hppa*-hp-hpux11 GCC 3.0 and up support HP-UX 11. You must use GNU binutils 2.11 or above on this platform. Thread support is not currently implemented for this platform, so --enable-threads does not work. See http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-prs/2002-01/msg00551.html and http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-bugs/2002-01/msg00663.html. GCC 2.95.x is not supported under HP-UX 11 and cannot be used to compile GCC 3.0 and up. Refer to binaries for information about obtaining precompiled GCC binaries for HP-UX. I wonder whether I can build the GPC in such a case??? Also what if I'll download gcc-core.3.x instead of gcc-core.2.95.x? Will I be able to build GPC in such a case??? Sincerely, Nick

To quote Frank on 2002/04/09 : The memory leak is not in the unit, but in GPC itself. It's a known problem with some string operations (especially concatenation) in a loop. (If you can read /proc/n/maps, you'll see that it's the stack, not the heap that grows.) Moving the thing out of the loop (syntactically, e.g. in a subroutine) is a work-around. I don't want to enter a debate over this, since clearly not everyone has the same concerns/priorities. However, I regard string handling memory leakage to be more serious than lack of range checking - but that's just my opinion, FWIW. (Which is not to say that range checking isn't also important, of course.) GPC libraries

Hi, I'm working on a library for GPC, and I want to make it available to the public. But I don't know in which way. At the moment the library contains some wrappers to other libraries (libao, libsndfile, libggi and libfreetype) and some other functionality (loading/saving .ppm files (graphics)). The largest part of the wrappers is done in C, and then there is some Pascal to wrap that. If you want to take a look at the stuff, you can download http://industree.org/libguakagpc/download/PASCAL-0.20020619.tar.bz2 I don't know what would be a good place to put the files. And maybe I need to work with units, but I'm not a very experienced Pascal programmer, so I don't have experience with units. (I started doing Pascal just for this project actually.) What happens if you do a "uses GPC" or "uses GMP"? Are the files supposed to go into a directory like /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-linux/2.95.4/units/? Could this stuff also be incorporated into the GPC distribution? Just like GMP? One 'problem' might be that I don't provide all the functionality of the libraries in the wrappers. I'm writing it for someone who will never use all the available functionality, so right now that's a good idea. If it will become available to more people, it might be a good idea to make stuff more general. greetz, Kasper
