StringUtils, FileUtils

Hi, in the current GPC version, I've included a StringUtils unit for general string handling routines (on a higher level than the built-in and RTS routines). Up to now, it only contains routines for a string hash table, but I'm planning to add some more routines. Perhaps some of you also have some routines to contribute (or features to request). Conditions for inclusion into this unit should be, IMHO: - Generally useful (not meant specifically for a certain program or something), - self-contained (not relying on an external library etc.), - new functionality compared to the existing routines (whereas the same or similar functionality under a different interface for compatibility purposes should go into other units, like GPCUtil for compatibility to `Turbo Power' units), - and, of course, compilable with the current GPC version, portable, bug-free, etc. ;-) The same goes for the FileUtils unit which has been there for some months already. Hi all, It seems that operators pow and ** cannot be redefined in gpc. Is that expected ? Bug in Delay

Hi, Some of my beginners found that Delay work proprely for timing more than 12 ms. Under 11 are no delay but the C'delay do. I don't find it in the Bug list.

[BUG REPORT] Reading LongReal

Hello, I don't know if it's really a bug but the result is really surprising. A LongReal variable (of simple integer value) is written into a text file, and when I read this value back : it isn't exactly the same. How to host algorithms/web pages donatet to the FSF/GNU

Hi Everybody, I have been serching for algorithms for the date/time unit, and found some webpages by Peter Baum. I have contacted him regarding the copyrigth of the algorithms, in ordre to make them free for the FSF/GNU. Peter Baum would like to donate the algorithms to the FSF/GNU, but where should the webpages with the descriptions, further development ect. be hosted, under GPC home page or a new? To your info I am only programming a couple of hours a week. I am not the normal programmer/"hacker" that sits by his computer several hours a day doing programming just for fun. But I would like to help building a lib/unit for date and time calculations for the GNU Pascal compiler, as I enjoy using this compiler for small programs. I will try to contact development list of the pascal development team and hear how to get your algorithms into/under the FSF/GNU, and hosted on a official FSF/GNU homepage. I would only ask that if this is done for any of the algorithms that are not known to be fully documented elsewhere, a reference be made to the date document on my home page and that a request be made in the source code requesting that any copies made include this information. Doing so will assure full and consistent documentation, minimize the propagation of any errors that might be discovered, and provide a central location for any improvements that are made in the future. gpc Units.

After many years of using Borland Pascal (latest 7.0) under MSDOS, I now have SuSE Linux 7.1 and with it gpc. I have been able to run a few simple Pascal test programmes. Please can anyone tell me how to obtain the equivalent of the Turbo Units crt, and printer ? I guess that if they exist they will be enshrined in the C language. I need to be able to clear a display screen or window, and also to send formatted output to my printer. Regards. -- Geoff Bagley G3FHL.

Hi all, Since at least three monthes a bug pops in and pops out in an erratic way while running dostest.bat after a new compilation of a gpc snapshot under djgpp-2.95.2 (nothing to do with the recent discussion about 2.95.3: I have reverted to 2.95.2). It is in one or both of the test programs nicola1.pas and/or nicola2.pas.
