Hey, the code I am having a problem with is more like: TYPE PString = STRING[40]; pPString = ^PString; VAR PPtr : pPString; ConsVers : String(15); BEGIN PPtr := @ConsVers; END. test.pas:1425: assignment from incompatible pointer type This code has worked with Turbo and SVS, but not GPC. What do you mean? Assigning between strings of different capacity works without any warning or error: program Foo; var Foo: String (15); Bar: String (20); begin Foo := Bar; Bar := Foo end. Gtk+-Port, 2-Byte Character, Offset

Hi! During our port of Gtk+, we found an 2-Byte-Character-Type (GdkWChar, just an Integer) and strings, based on them. Is there any support for these 2-byte characters in GPC? Does anyone have an idea how to port this macro to GPC? #define offsetof(TYPE, MEMBER) ((size_t) &((TYPE *)0)->MEMBER) It just returns an integer with the offset of a member of a structure. Example (in Pascal): --------- Type foo = Record x, y, z : Integer; End; Var result:Integer; Begin result := offsetof(foo, x); (* Result is 0 *) result := offsetof(foo, y); (* Result is 4 *) result := offsetof(foo, z) (* Result is 8 *) End. --------------- I really don't know how to implement offsetof, because its based on a type-declaration, not an instance of foo. Again, Porting from another version of ancient proprietary Pascal. In GPC, apparently strings run like this: 4 byte Capacity, 4 byte Length, then the string Data. In my old compiler strings stored the length and only the length as a CHR(len) up to a length of 255. Where we could write statements like: string[0] := CHR(length); Is there a way to allow this in GPC, if not is it being planned or could someone point me in the direction to add a compiler flag to switch between the two? Also, if I have a String[15] and String[20] and I want to assign a variable with the value in string15, is there a way to get the compiler to not complain that the types are different? Hello, while working with schemata in gpc I encountered a problem: In the following program it seems the "array of vektor" a^ is created with the correct size but the components of the array do not know about their own size. I do not know if this is the expected behaviour. bug in type casting?

Hi all IÂ´m using gpc as a cross compiler (from sparc to ppc) and I have many old files from an irix/mips pascal compiler and in one file I got some problem. It seemes that the new gpc (20010201) does not manage to handle a calculation in a type casting statement. The code doesnÂ´t get through the compiler. Example: Program bug; Var m:real; a:integer; begin m :=10.0; a := integer(m*1000); (* line 7 *) writeln; end. ->gpc -c bug.p bug.p: In main program: bug.p:7: warning: cast to type of different size bug.p:7: reference expected, value given -> /BjÃ¶rn Persson

install gpc on AIX 4.3.3

Hi, installation of gpc-20010111 on AIX 4.3.3 had the following problems: - while linking gpc1 the TOC overflows: ld: d: 0711-781 ERROR: TOC overflow. TOC size: 67732 Maximum size: 65536 The problem can be circumvented by adding the "-Wl,'-bbigtoc'" flag to LDFLAG (assuming gcc is used to call ld, for xlc it's just "-bbigtoc") It strikes me as odd that all other gcc compilers (gcc, g++, f77, objective c and java do not overflow the TOC during install. - while compiling the RTS with xgpc, rts/internal.pas produces invalid assembler code. rts/internal.pas contains procedure RunFinalizers (var AtExitProcs : PProcList); asmname 'gpc$runfinaliz ers'; The AIX assembler does not allow "$" in symbols ! After changing "gpc$runfinalizers" to "_p_runfinalizers" the RTS could be built. Of course the magic name is now destroyed. Is it possible to fix the above problems in the distribution so that GPC can be installed on AIX in a standard manner ? OK, maybe I need a little more detail. I have some C functions called from Pascal that write to a pointer to packed array of chars. Alot of what they write is 0x80 0x3a, etc. When it comes back into pascal, I would like to run the result through an IF statement to check the hex value in the character. With the old compiler we were allowed to do this: IF (character = '/8a') THEN blah; But I can't seem to get anythign like this to work here, and I think its because it is actually comparing a hex value to / (at least that is what I can gather from all the assignments I made from my early post and how Pascal stored those values). Any suggestions? Syntax Question

Hello, I'm currently switching compilers from an old proprietary Pascal compiler to GPC. I've got a problem assigning a hex value to a character. This is easy in c, you can say char a ='0xa0'; and be done with it. The syntax for our old compiler was character := '/a0'; I've tried many things trying to assign a hex value to a character but have come up only the hex value of the first charcter: character := '/a0' results in 0x2f which is just the / character := '\a0' results in 0x5c which is the \ character := '16#a0' results in 0x31 which is the 1 character := '$82' results in 0x24, which is the $ I've tried all without the single quotes and get sytnax errors upon compile. Bug in StrReadWord?

I'm using StrReadWord to parse a line of input to my program. If the last 'word' is a single character, then it doesn't get read. Is this behaviour intentional? Example: program test(output); uses StringUtils; var src : string ="abc xy"; dest : string; i : integer; begin i := 1; while StrReadWord(src,i,dest) do writeln(i,dest:10) end. This produces, as I expected: 4 abc 7 xy But if the last character of the string is removed: src : string ="abc x"; the output becomes: 4 abc What happened to the 'x'? I'm using gpc 20010115. -- Steve
