GPC on a DEC Alpha

I just applied, from scratch, the instructions given in the new FAQ we just got. I tried to install gpc 19991030 on top of gcc-2.95.2, on a DEC Alpha computer with OSF 4.0e. According to suggestions made by Nicola Girardi, I proceeded in the following way : tar xvfz gcc-2.95.2.tar.gz tar xvfz gpc-19991030.tar.gz mv gpc/p gcc-2.95.2/gcc/ cd gcc-2.95.2 mkdir gpc ../configure --enable-languages=pascal [ here the necessary patch was applied ] make The last step terminates with the following results : ../.././xgpc -B../.././ -c -I. -W -Wall -Wpointer-arith -Wwrite-strings -Wmissing-prototypes -Wmissing-declarations -g -O2 -DRTS_RELEASE_STRING="'__GPC_RTS_VERSION_`cat /net2/ciceron2/ol/src/Install/gcc-2.95.2/gcc/p/rts/rts_release`__'" -DBSD_RTS=0 `if [ x@with_shared@ = xyes ] ; then echo -fPIC; fi` --unit-path=/net2/ciceron2/ol/src/Install/gcc-2.95.2/gcc/p/rts --automake heap.pas error.pas: In function `Geterrormessage': error.pas:365: Internal compiler error in `copy_to_mode_reg', at explow.c:669 Please submit a full bug report. gpc 19991030 and gcc 2.95.2

I have been suggested to try building the last alpha version of gpc instead of 19990118, called the current one on the official site. I tried to build on top of gcc-2.95.2 on a DEC Alpha computer. "configure" runs without any warning, and without requiring any to aply any patch. "make LANGUAGES=pascal" terminates prematurely with the following error message : make[1]: *** No rule to make target `pascal', needed by `native'. Stop. make[1]: Leaving directory `/net2/ciceron2/ol/src/Install/gcc-2.95.2/gcc' make: *** [all-gcc] Error 2 Am I missing something ? -- Olivier Lecarme

GPC on DEC Unix (OSF)

I just installed gpc on a DEC Alpha computer with DEC Unix (OSF) version 4.0e. The installation with gcc 2.8.1 ran without error, and gpc answers as follows : zenon(~)31: gpc -v Reading specs from /usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/alphaev56-dec-osf4.0e/2.8.1/specs gpc version 19990118, based on gcc-2.8.1 Program compiling runs correctly. However, when trying to execute any generated load image, the error message is always the same : internal error: duplicate constructor Is there any explanation? Did I get the correct versions of gpc and gcc? -- Olivier Lecarme

current gpc vs. current gcc

I just successfully installed the last gpc, using the gcc-2.8.1 distribution. However, the current gcc distribution is 2.95.2, which was previously installed on the same machine. Thus, I would like to ask: - whether gpc can be installed using gcc-2.95.something (it seemed to me that it didn't work); - or whether gpc-2.8.1 can coexist with gcc-2.95.2 on the same machine. You can simply remove or uncomment the misleading warning in rts/misc.c and rebuild. It's harmless. crt library for GNU?

I am a high-school student using the Gnu pascal compiler for programming homework, but I run into a regrettable hitch. My programs are now requiring the Borland Pascal crt library, and I don't know where to find either that library or a similar one for GNU. Is there any hope? ((The crt library is responsible for clearing the screen, creating sounds and colors on the screen, and random numbers, I think.)) Thanks for your help... Ian Maddox

List archive working again

Hello, the list archive at should be working again now. The URL is http://www.gnu.de/archive/wilma.cgi/gpc and http://www.gnu.de/archive/wilma.cgi/gpc-announce respectively. Now the pages also come in gpc signature colors. :-) Currently, the search option is working fine. If you find it broken, please email me at <anja(a)drewitz.de>. Please don't mail a copy to the gpc list because I let procmail move all mails with To: gpc... and Cc: gpc... to a separate folder and would not see your mail for a long time. Best wishes, Anja
