From the command line (and sorry, Frank, but redir simply doesn't work on my system: it creates the file, and puts nothing into it), error messages fly past, telling me I have undefined references to 'GrWhite' and other things defined in grx20. (I issued gpc --automake -o taste.exe taste.pas) >From within RHIDE, the message window shows: compiling: c:\djgpp\contrib\grx232\pascal\taste.pas ignoring Automake options `'; taste.pas: undefined reference to 'Init_Grx20' ld returned 1 exit status There were some errors So apparently the compiler isn't finding the necessary grx20 files? But my djgpp.env iss full of them (appended below). Sorry to give you such a moving target, but I do think I'm quite a bit closer than before. installation difficulties

Hello, all. Following Maurice's suggestion, I acquired the 2.95.2 build, downloading from agnes' /home/maurice directory. I also put in the new grx23s stuff, reconciling directories by putting ../contrib/grx232 subdirectory contents into the respective ../ subdirectories, always updating. Now when I go to c:/gpc and issue gpc --automake -v -o diffus.exe diffus/diffus12.pas I get the (vast) command line, some information on include directories, then gpcpp.exe: ../include/sys/version.h: no such file or directory (ENOENT) In fact, there is no ../include/sysdirectory at all, nor is there a version.h file on my hard drive. I must point out that I don't have djgpp at all: I am programming only in Pascal, not in C. Do I need to grab some other files that gpc is assuming it can access from gcc? many thanks, Toby

StdOut can be redirected simply with `>', but I suppose you mean StdErr. If you're using bash (available for DJGPP), you can do it with `2>' (StdErr only) or `&>' (StdOut and StdErr). How to generate correct Makefile for pascal installation?

GRX and gpc

Hi all, I have uploaded to agnes slightly corrected versions of grx-2.3.2 ftp://agnes.dida.physik.uni-essen.de/home/maurice/grx-2.3.2.tar.gz for unix ftp://agnes.dida.physik.uni-essen.de/home/maurice/grx232s.zip for djgpp With respect to the official grx-2.3.1 contained elsewhere (gnu-pascal/libs) on agnes this tentative version contains only corrections to the gpc interface, grx20.pas and bcc2grx.pas and some pascal test programs, and includes makefiles to build pascal test programs simultaneously with C test programs. Simply do not forget to edit makedefs.gnu to have INCLUDE_GPC_SUPPORT=y (it is n by defaults). This means that there should be no problem to use the versions in the gnu-pascal/libs/binary directory which contain only the C interface. In this corrected version I have provided for the new asmname syntax (In fact I have checked that it compiles/executes both with the old and new asmname syntax), corrected for a couple of errors in grx20.pas (^ forgotten in pointer declarations), and for an error in the manifest file (djgpp version) which did not enable to uninstall properly. installation difficulties

Hi, all. I'm trying to install gpc on a new machine. I've used it for years, but somehow this new installation is giving me fits. So I've got some nice GPC programs, but no way to modify them - and deadlines creeping up! I'd like to work under PENG, but for now I'm just working on the command line. But it isn't going so well: When I type gpc --automake -g -v diffus12.pas, I get a nice screenful of messages, then eventually gpc1.exe reports: module 'grx20' could not be compiled. but when I try to compile grx20.pas independently, I get a different message, this time from ld.exe: cannot open linker script file djgpp.djl: no such file or directory (ENOENT) and sure enough, in the specs file, it shows that ld should get a string -Tdjgpp.djl, but there is no such file (djgpp.djl) on my computer, or in the manifest lists, or indeed anywhere I could find on the entire internet! So obviously a lot of pieces are working well, but some not. I am using GPC 2.8.1, just downloaded a month ago from the GPC home, and compiled with GCC 2.8.1. Other information available upon request, though it would help if I knew how to redirect StdOut to a file in DOS - so far my attempts aren't working. I'd appreciate any help... Toby

Delphi-compatible SYSUTILS unit (beta) released!

Hi all I have just released the first public beta of a Delphi-compatible "sysutils" unit to agnes. It has been tested under Cygwin, Mingw, Linux (Mandrake 7.0), and Solaris 7. As far as I know, there are no general portability or endian issues - but there may well be bugs. Please download the file: ftp://agnes.dida.physik.uni-essen.de/home/chief/sysutils-20000725.zip The package contains a test program, which you can try out. The program's output is fairly self explanatory, and you can see from it what has succeeded/failed, without looking at the sources in most cases. Please send all bug reports/fixes to me. Please note that this is not a complete implementation of the sysutils unit, but it is a fairly comprehensive port. Some things (e.g., exceptions) cannot be implemented until some new features (e.g., classes) are added to GPC. Others have not been implemented, either because there is no time, or because I simply am incapable of implementing them. Frank has helped with many of the more difficult routines that have already been implemented. If anybody else wants to help, please feel free to do so! Please let me have all your success (or otherwise) stories! I am particularly interested to know the OS platforms that the unit compiles and works correctly under. Thanks. Otherwise the compiler works just fine. You might want to try the latest releases (see http://home.pages.de/~GNU-Pascal/) where a number of bugs have been fixed. However, the bugs mentioned above are relatively minor and won't affect most programs (unless you want to do an inter-procedural goto or such things, in which case you'll need the latest release).
