I've been trying unsuccessfully over the years to compile GPC, but still can't do it :( What _exactly_ do I have to do in order to compile GPC? See ya! Orlando

Building an h8300-hitachi-hms cross-compiler under i686-pc-cygwin 32

I've tried to build a h8300-hitachi-hms cross-compiler to no avail under cygwin. Does anybody know if it is even possible? It dies when it tries to build the RTS (integer constant too large). Does anyone have pre-built binaries? Thanks, John Hansen

IDE mingw?

Hi! During our astronomy seminar at the university Essen/Germany, we need to do some programming work and I'd like to hand out a CD with GPC. Most of the students are using windows and are used to play with an Integrated Development Environment. Is there an IDE available for mingw32? Is there a _simple_(!!) install skript and a package available for GPC and mingw32? (just pressing "install" and all is fine?) Eike

Another problem with strings

Hi! I'm trying to use the shared memory with GPC. The service I've written in C to map into the shared memory region accepts void **pointer_to_set_arg. I declare: type xyz_str_type = record id : integer; name : string(80); end; xyz_ptr_type = ^xyz_str_type; var xyz_ptr : xyz_ptr_type; xyz_str : xyz_str_type; tmp_ptr : pointer; ... in code I do: exp_shm_map (..., Add(tmp_ptr),...); xyz_ptr := xyz_ptr_type (tmp_ptr); xyz_ptr^.str := xyz.str; writeln (xyz_ptr^.str); In other program I just print the xyz_ptr^.str after I map into an existing shared memory region. The problem is that it doesn't work. I get nothing printed. But when I write xyz_ptr^ := xyz; everything works. It seems that something is done when new String variable is allocated. Some kind of initialization! Is there any way to overcome the diffculty without using the xyz strcuture allocated explicitly? Thank you, Nick

Dropping `--standard-pascal', `foo = procedure (Integer, Real)'

Frank: I'm running gpc version 20000707, based on 2.95.2 19991024 (release) with set standard = "--standard-pascal" gpc $standard \ --transparent-file-names \ --no-mixed-comments \ -O$optimization \ -Wall \ $program.p -o $program (these are part of a script, ftp://ftp.ncifcrf.gov/pub/delila/gpcc ) I really like being able to compile original version (classic?) Pascal and I plan to switch to gpc (or p2c if gpc fails) in the future when Sun gives up on Pascal. SDL for GPC

Hi Folks! I've written some SDL units for GPC. They are quite incomplete but usable (as far as you only need video output). "Simple DirectMedia Layer is a cross-platform multimedia library designed to provide fast access to the graphics framebuffer and audio device." See http://www.libsdl.org for more details. Furthermore, SDL_gfx is included in the package, just to have some graphics primitives. You'll find the unit at http://www.gnu-pascal.de/contrib/eike/ (sdlgpc-date.tar.gz) Have fun. Eike
