memory allocation with gpc

Hi, I'd like to know if memory allocation routines (ie : New, dispose, etc....) use malloc, free... C routines or if they use their own implementations. Thanks

Post GPC2.1 release problems

Hi, Just a short note to say that I've not had much luck compiling our software with the two 2003 gpc alpha releases. Everything works fine with the 2.1 release. Running gpc20030209 built with the gcc 3.2.1 backend, I got a segmentation fault whilst compiling one of our modules (no prior errors/warnings to indicate what may have caused it). Running gpc20030323, again built with the gcc 3.2.1 backend, the segmentation fault goes away but the compiler now hangs in an endless loop when I compile any module that uses a particular unit I have. Doing --debug-source seems to show the compiler hanging part way through each module, but I haven't found a pattern to the code which causes it to stop. I've now run the gpc20030323 i686 binary (built with gcc 2.95.3) and I'm getting a new gpc1 segmentation fault. This occurs when I do CASE i OF 0: Segmentation fault here BEGIN ... END; It occurred because integer i was no longer defined. The declaration was the no longer valid i : static integer which needed to be i : integer attribute (static); Admittedly, fixing this cured the fault and it appears I may be able to compile everything with this binary (I still have a lot of changes to make). However, a segmentation fault is a nasty way of exiting the compiler. I will do the code conversions to compile with this release (which you're right - I do hate) but the gcc 3.2.1 backend builds still seem fragile. Sorry I can't be any more specific about the bugs yet and I don't want to sound critical. I think gpc is in great shape thanks to all your efforts. The gcc3 step is no easy one to take as we have found in many other areas. Pascal from C with 30020323

I've produced some Pascal which is called from C. The Pascal program looks like this: program myprog; {$gpc-main=Dummy} myfunc (parameters.. .) : integer; asmname 'name'; {$include "myfile.pas"} begin end. The function myfunc is given in the file "myfile.pas". To suit the new compiler 20030323 I changed the declaration above to myfunc (parameters.. .) : integer; attribute (name = 'name'); external; The compiler now objects to the re-declaration of myfunc. How can I get round this without editing myfile.pas (which is used by a number of other programs, so I don't want to alter it)? GPC 2.1 optimization bug

Hi, I've run into a code generation bug with GPC 2.1. When I use optimization -O2, a calculation uses an uninitialized register. With -O1 the generated code looks very different, and it works. Compiler: Binary distribution of gpc 2.1 downloaded from http://www.gnu-pascal.de/binary/gpc-2.1-with-gcc.i686-pc-linux-gnu.tar.gz Computer: i586 running SuSE 7.2, kernel stock 2.4.17 I have not tried any newer versions of the compiler since i could not find binary versions and I do hesitate a bit to compile one myself. I've managed to cut down the module to this very short module so I just get two errors, both - prior parameter's size depends on 'A': MODULE Test interface; export Test=(Test_proc); PROCEDURE Test_proc(List : ARRAY[a..b :INTEGER] OF DOUBLE); END. MODULE Test implementation; PROCEDURE Test_proc; BEGIN List[a]:= 2.3; List[2]:= 2.3; END; { Test_proc } END. The errors correspond to each assignment although the error line is the declaration. Sure enough, converting this to a unit fixes the problem: UNIT Test; Interface PROCEDURE Test_proc(List : ARRAY[a..b :INTEGER] OF DOUBLE); Implementation PROCEDURE Test_proc; BEGIN List[a]:= 2.3; List[2]:= 2.3; END; { Test_proc } END. Is the module syntax illegal or is it a bug? If it is a bug, at least you can take comfort in knowing it can kill the DEC Pascal compiler too! building gpc

Hi, I am building gpc on solaris7. First of all, I configure like that " configure --disable-multilib" I use this option because, an error occurs with gcc. Gcc developers said that I must set this option.
