Yes, they're dates. Most of the time, the last one is the best one (sometimes, mroe or less serious bugs creep in, and one should use the previous version until they're fixed, but this will be discussed on the list).
But apart from this, there are probably far more than enough versions on the server, and some could be deleted. Seems like Peter doesn't need the HD space so urgently. ;-)
