Changing the "gpc1" spec will only affect GPC, unless you're speaking of wholesale destruction of the "specs" file. Somehow, I've managed to avoid such wholesale destruction so far. I must be lucky! ;-)
Something added to the GPC driver can only affect GPC, and hence is a safer option.
Adding code is safer than making a backup of a text file before editing?
Ah well, one of the fortunate advantages of free software is that we all have the ability to have our own local patches.
