I would start with the University of Minnesota Physics Dept. The Math Dept. was pushing GPC with a web site. Pascal was big here with the Jensen and Wirth standard at Control Data Corp. I'm not going to suggest a core GPC because I don't know. However, I do like the UCSD/Borland standard. There is a serious interest in Linux here. But most have long ago given up on Pascal.
A small, extensible core GNU pascal is all I need.
