"Hello, world!" was the output of my first Pascal program; let me begin my way in this list with the same words.
With this mail I will like to present the conversion to HTML of the list files, but I'll introduce my self.
INTRODUCTION
I'm a linguist working on "lingware" (Natural Language processing software) for the Catalan language (about 8 million speakers) at University "Pompeu Fabra" in Barcelona. I'm "pascaler" since 1982 (with Turbo-Pascal 2 for CP/M in an Apple II); I have lots of routines in Pascal [e.g. for generation all of the verbal forms in Catalan]: it means that I'm prisoner of my work, because migrating to a newer language implies to translate thousands of code lines; in addition, I like Pascal, so I'm not impatient to change it.
At the moment, I use both Think P for Macintosh and Turbo P 7 (I develop in Mac and translate to TP7 for the windoides in my team); now it's time to go to Unix, because of some collaborators outside of our Institute.
We have a Sun SparcStation with SunOS 2.4; gpc is installed and works, at least to compile "hello, world!"; but I will need help about system calls, curses, file system, and so on.
GPC HTML LIST
I don't like to abuse of your help, so the first thing is to read all the past mails. I found that ASCII reading is very annoying, so I wrote a conversion program and I'm studing all your q&a to the list. The conversion is already done and I think it could be useful for other "pascalers", so I put it to general disposition in my Web server as my first contribution to the GPC list.
The URL is:

I'll apreciate comments (things to be improved, about the interest or nonsense of this work...)
MAKING IT MORE EFFICIENT
The avantage of the HTML version of the past lists is that you download every time only one message and you can print it if necessary very quickly.
If you often access, I suggest to do as follows:
1.- Open one of the index files (v.g. "1997 by subject"). 2.- Save it "as source", i.e. as HTML file, with the name you like. 3.- Because of the line <BASE URL="http://www.iula.upf.es/altres/pub/gpc/list2html/"> in the file, you can open it as local file but with remote links. 4.- If it doesn't work, let me know.
