they'd have all own lists, of course!
who will manage the multiplicationi of efforts?
they can read the main-list (this list) too, but maybe they can diskuss better in ohter languages.
But if something interesting comes up in their list, the rest of us on the main list would miss out.
if it's really importent, they'll tell us!

PS: Postmaster, please, set the "Reply-To:" to gpc@gnu.de for this list. It isn't nice to change the address every time. Egbert

Sorry, but we will certainly not do that. Please read http://www.unicom.com/pw/reply-to-harmful.html for reasons.
Every Real Mailer [TM] has at least a "group reply" or a "reply to all" function. `mutt' even has a "list reply" in addition which makes dealing with mailing lists really comfortable.

I use the Real Mailer [TM] mentioned on that site as example, AND I'm aware of the functionality. Still I make the mistake at least 50% of the time, simply because all other lists do have this done.
I also think his "against" arguments are either dubious or coloured, or non-existant in practice.
I'm on maillists that have reply-to's for about a decade now, and never had any problem. (and more important, never heard any complaint about reply-to)

But those mistakes can be corrected. The mistakes that can arise from a munged "Reply-To:" cannot.

I once had the problem that I had almost sent a _very_ personal reply to the whole list. After that I decided that I would stop posting to any list with that "feature".
We hage another list here where one member cannot receive private email at his "From:" address, so his personal "Reply-To:" header is needed if one wants to reply personally to him.
These are two real-world examples for the arguments in `http://www.unicom.com/pw/reply-to-harmful.html'.
Peter, who only had to press capital `L' for replying to the list in `mutt' :-)
I personally think it would be a shame if this list is split into several languages
But if something interesting comes up in their list, the rest of us on the main list would miss out. [The Chief]

It would be a ill turn as what would motivate Germans that uses a German list, because there English is not good, to begin translating a series of old postings, when there problem has been solved?
I am a Dane, my languages is neither English, German nor French, but if Dane's have to communicate with other than Dane's (or Scandinavian's), we have to learn other languages beside our native.
I think the Germans that don't read or write (perfectly) English, should see it as chance to improve there English. As I see it English is the language if you work with computers and software.
This is my humble opinion,

Agree fully. I can read German perfectly, but writing a msg takes 10 times as many times, and the hassle of monitoring two platforms, where the german probably will have a lower level, is too much.
Why will the new list have a lower level? Because all advanced users will monitor the English list anyway, and everything important will propagate to the English list anyway.
P.s. I learned to bring my English classes in practice by writing to the fido equivalent of comp.lang.modula2.

One of the guys asking me about a german mailing-list is Turk, has Turkish as first language, and German as second language.
Learning a third language is so difficult for him, that he would't do that, but he is very interested in Pascal. Actually, I am the only one who is talking to him when he has problems, using/installing GNU-Pascal.

And this is an argument for many people in east-europe, too!
