We seem to be getting quite a bit of spam on our list lately i.e. messages from mohamismael@netscape, Mr. Tony Shinomanet and mohammad ahmend.
Is it possible for somebody to remove this junk and perhaps bar the culprits from posting more junk?

Check the full header. If it contains the line Received: from adele.gerwinski.de (adele.gerwinski.de [217.69.76.193]) then it came via the gpc mailing list.

Send a complaint to the originating ISP: subject: mail abuse. In the body a one line complaint will do followed by the full header of the offending email and at least a part of the body of the offending email so the ISP will know what the cmmplaint is about. No attachments: some ISP's will auto-reject mail containing attachments. You can get a valid email address from "whois".
Most ISP's will take quick action to block the account of the offenders.
Hope this helps Russ
