Use the above line in your e-Mail body to reach me in our company. Subject: Latest GPC version [...] Please, be so kind and leave me detailled instructions (detailled enough to be followed by an absolute newcomer to Linux) about which file(s) to download (with Netscape for Windows, because my Linux host is not online !!),
Point your browser to the following URL:
ftp://agnes.dida.physik.uni-essen.de/gnu-pascal/beta/gpc-971001.i586-linux.tar.gz
Download that file and store it under some name that survives transport through a DOS filesystem. Save it as `/tmp/gpc-971001.i586-linux.tar.gz'.
where to store them to, how to do the update (with YaST?)...
In order to reduce interference mit YaST, *uninstall* GPC from YaST before you install gpc-971001.
To install gpc-971001, do the following as root:
cd / tar xvzf /tmp/gpc-971001.i586-linux.tar.gz
This will install some files in /usr/bin, some in /usr/lib/gcc-lib, and some in /usr/info. These are the correct places for Linux; on other UNIX-like systems these would be /usr/local/*.
After that, you can remove `/tmp/gpc-971001.i586-linux.tar.gz' or move it to some other place where you keep distribution archives. (I have a directory `/usr/local/src/archive/' for such purposes.)
Thanks in forward,
(* You mean: in advance. ;*)
