gpc compile problem on solaris x86.

In the meantime, you might have to use the obvious workaround, making a local copy of the string in the function. Passing strings by value

Hello, Is there something special that needs to be done to pass strings by value? The code below seems to mangle any strings I pass pretty well, when I would assume it would only mangle the local copy in the function: program testfunc(output); var aline : string (20) VALUE 'foo|bar|baz'; function countfields(line : string; axis : char) : integer; var count : integer VALUE 0; begin if length(line) > 0 then count := 1; while index(line, axis) > 0 do begin count := count + 1; line := substr(line, index(line, axis) + 1); end; countfields := count; end; begin writeln(aline); writeln(countfields(aline, '|'), ' field(s)'); writeln(aline); end. Under either 971001, or the 980106 alpha I get the following output: foo|bar|baz 3 field(s) baz which is what I would expect if countfields() accepted 'line' as a VARiable parameter. -Kevin -- Kevin A. gpc installation problems on Digital Unix

Ladies and Gentlemen, I installed gpc-2.0 on Digital Unix (Alpha) V4.0A and I saw the following problems. 1. The compiler (I think is gcc 2.7.2.1 compiles this and not /usr/bin/cc) could not compile the file "gpc-decl.c" . The error was in line 2962 TREE_CODE (TREE_VALUE (tail)) = code; The compile said it was not an l-value. I worked around by eliminating the conditional, and typing return NULL_TREE; for both cases. Will this break the compiler functionality? 2. The file "gpc-module.c" has several '#define' statements and not starting at first character of the line. The link editor failed because of this, eg ld: unreolved STORE_SPECIAL 3. The rts/Makefile generated needed some editiong, ie adding a "../" for the gcc path name. Pointer to Method...

Ok, this is a tricky one. I need to know how to get a pointer to a method from an object. I've tried a million and one different things, but was not able to do so. Is it even possible? The reason I need this is because I'm toying with the idea of making an object method an interrupt routine. Thanks in advance! See ya!
