pascal to C++

I am looking at using the front end of the GPC as a starting point for a Pascal to C++ converter. I am aware that there are pascal to C converters in existance, but the code they produce is in general code that only a C compiler can understand. My intension is to produce maintainable code, and I am helped by the fact that the starting point is a particular body of code over which I have some control and can be hacked before and after if necessary. What I would like (besides advice and guidance) is a good description of the intermediate data structure generated by the front end of the GPC (and GCC) compilers. A few months ago (when I was first considering this) I found a wonderful web site (in Sweden, I think) that described this beatifully. Since then, however, this computer has been upgraded, rebuilt, and generally hacked around and I have lost the link. Help? Peter. ----- "Time is an illusion. Launch times doubly so"

patches for egcs 1.1.2

Hi all I have tried to install gpc on a Linux system for egcs 1.1.2. It failed beause of missing patches for egcs 2.91.66. Do you have them? I have been surprised because Delorie announced a beta version of egcs 1.1.2 for djgpp which includes sources and binaries for gpc. In his distribution there is no patch for 2.91.66 (only those in your current distribution gpc-19990118.tar.gz). I have not yet tried to install the djgpp binaries. There's quite a good Pascal to C converter, called p2c, at http://www.synaptics.com/people/daveg/ This does quite a good job of producing readable C, and has a switch to make it C++ compatible. I got this message when playing with a dynamically linked RTS (run time system). Apparently, the way linking works on your platform makes it occur with static linking as well. (BTW, the fact that noone else has noticed this problem doesn't mean it doesn't exist for others. The units, which cause the problem, are relatively new, and it might be that noone has tried to use them or to compile the demo programs on the Alpha before.) Anyway, this error is nothing serious. It was meant as a sanity check for something else long time ago, so in fact it's safe now to remove this error message. Yes, the automake expects this. We've thought about this problem, so probably some future versions will accept any GCC installed somewhere. Hello, folks! This is an informal strawpoll to get an overview about whether it makes sense to try to create an unmoderated Usenet newsgroup devoted to GPC, `comp.lang.pascal.gnu'. Does gpc-cpp forget about include paths?

Hi, fellow GPC developers! This time I have a problem with GPC I hope to get help for. ;-) My version of `gpc-cpp' seems to forget include paths (option `-I') after one use. When compiling a program that includes several files from another directory I have to specify that same directory several times with `-I'. Since I cannot remember having seen this in the past nor to have touched this part of the preprocessor I am asking whether (a) anybody else has observed this behaviour, and/or (b) someone has hacked `gpc-cpp' in a way that might have caused this problem.
