I answered this mail yesterday, but then I saw that the original posting had a `Reply-To' header, so I'm sending it again, to the list, because it might be of interest to others. BTW, I think one should generally *not* use `Reply-To' headers in the mailing list, unless in special cases (like the strawpoll recently), just like one should not ask for private replies in newsgroups. Crt lib.... Thanks, I will use the the new one. For information, note that the real BP crt ver 7.0 does'n work on the hi-speed PC. There is a bug (error 200 divide by zero) when they count the number of loop for the function delay. Olivier

Problem compiling regexdemo and pipedemo on Redhat linux 5.2

I have recently installed gpc 19990118 and gcc version 2.8.1 on a Redhat linux 5.2 system. I've been trying to build the programs in the p/demos directory, and (now that I've discovered the --automake option) all of them build successfully except regexdemo and pipedemo. Trying to compile these gives the output shown below. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what is wrong? However, the latest GPC release (19990118) contains a complete BP compatible and portable CRT unit. You can use it with `uses CRT' just like in BP, and the unit will be compiled automatically when you give gpc the `--automake' switch. You only need the ncurses (Unix, terminals) or PDCurses (DJGPP or X11) library which is available (as source and binaries) on agnes. Hello, I tried out the new beta version of gnu pascal. There seems to be a problem whith the crt unit. Although the compile goes fine, if I include the "uses crt" line in the program(even if no crt routine is used) the executable just makes a clear screen and then exits without doing anything else. If I delete the "uses crt" line the programs executes fine. Any idea? Kostas

It was designed for "fullscreen" application rather than "text filters", so it makes sense to clear the screen at the beginning and ending of the program. Or do you mean that your program contains other code which is not executed? This would be a bug indeed. In this case, please post a test program and tell me what platform you're using. No. With the current version (gpc-19990118), it should be trivial to compile them when needed, by just using the `--automake' switch. However, of the libraries that some units (e.g. CRT) use, there are binaries for i586-pc-linux-gnulibc1, i386-go32 and sparc-sun-solaris2 available from ftp://agnes.dida.physik.uni-essen.de/gnu-pascal/libs/ Binaries for other platforms are not there yet, but if anyone builds them, we'd like to upload them.
