It should write `internal file name: (null)' 3 times -- that's ok (for Input, Output and StdErr), and then the temp name which should be a valid, but non-existing file name. If this still works, you might want to make sure it really isn't a LFN problem. You could change rts/filename.pas, function GetTempFileName, so it return a name not longer than 8+3 (e.g., just return a constant name for testing), and rebuild the RTS. If the problem still exists then, it's no LFN problem... I like the meaning of ESC to abort an operation, and I don't like the idea of two different keys (ESC and Alt/Meta) doing basically the same. Unfortunately (but consequently) double-ESC is the sequence for Alt- (or Meta-)ESC. So, a program could recognize Alt-ESC (kbAltEsc in the CRT unit) as equivalent to ESC. I'm doing it in CRTDemo now, but each program has to do it for itself -- and this could be many places. Alternatively, I could add a flag to CRT which, if set, will cause CRT to transparently translate Alt-ESC to ESC (if the flag is not set, Alt-ESC can be distinguished from ESC for programs that want this). Should I do so? But even worse, there are sequences that start with double-ESC, e.g. Alt-function key, so the code has to wait further after reading double-ESC. So, if you press ESC three times, you get an Alt-ESC and (after some delay) a plain ESC. So, if Alt-ESC terminates the program (like CRTDemo with my next changes), that works, since Alt-ESC terminates the program and it won't get to the delay... But generally, on a local console, I have no problems with a small ESCDELAY -- if you set it larger than ~30, repeated ESC keys (i.e. holding down the key) will get converted to Alt-ESC, but 10 is fine for me. I'm adding a comment about it in the CRT unit. But I still don't see what the `[^ ]*' was for -- after all, it's inserted back in the same place, so it's irrelevant whether the parentheses match a few spaces more or less. Probably -- the problem is that escape sequences of function keys unfortunately start with an escape code as well, so the code has to wait for some time until it can assume it was only an ESC key. You can set this time (in ms) in the environment variable ESCDELAY. E.g., 10 is fine for me on the local console, OTOH over a slogin through a slow network I sometimes need as much as 1000. Who knows a good documentation for that ?. The GPC manual contains documentation of some of the features -- unfortunately, a lot is still missing there. But it's worth a look, in particular the "Programming" and "Borland Pascal" chapters. Hello, The gpc works now on my Linux Mandrake, it is GREAT, it has many more functionality than Borland Pascal 7 In the crtdemo the ESC key doesn't work to quit, is it a problem of my config ? I know only Turbo pascal dialect end to understant everything, i need to learn the other dialects used by gpc. Who knows a good documentation for that ?. I have some great units.When fully ported and tested under gpc, i will give them to the gpc community (if you accept ). Thanks a lot to all the one that help me Jean-Philippe Combe

Error in util.c 3rd

I apply sed -f $(srcdir)\config\msdos\top.sed to makefiles (created by configure shell) in $(srcdir) and $(srcdir)/gcc directories and after this I run manually configure shell in $(srcdir)/gcc/p/rts. After this I run make CFLAGS="-O2" LDFLAGS="-s" LANGUAGES=pascal and I obtained xgcc, xgpc, cc1, gpcpp, gpc1, libgcc.a and libgpc.a with some non fatal make or cc1, gcc errors. But gpc1 fails when compiling some files from $(srcdir)/gcc/p/test. It got internal compiler error. I don't now what to do. Debugging ? David Kredba

Hello, I would to work with Gnu Pascal on Linux Mandrake 7.02 I have downloaded several files : gpc-19990118-1.i386-pc-linux-gnu.rpm gpc-19990118.i586-pc-linux-gnulibc1.tar.gz gpc-19990118.tar.gz gpc-2.0.tar.gz gpc-extras-19990118-1.i386-pc-linux-gnu.rpm install-gpc-binary Can somebody say to me which file is the better to install ? (i know how to install them) Can somebody say to me what environment variables to define to access to the units because i have installed GPC on another computer but i coudn't compile programs with the crt or other included units ? Thank you Jean-Philippe
