GPC "distribution bug"

Hi, I had problems installing the latest GPC distribution (gpc-20010331.tar.gz) on my GNU/Linux system (kernel 2.4.3). It compiled well, but "make pascal.install" didn't install anything. Here's why: In the GPC source subdirectory p/script/ one of the scripts (I think "make-library-interface") didn't have its "executable" file flag set. Setting the flag with chmod and then using "make pascal.install" again solved that problem. (If that problem's common & already known I'm sorry for rereporting it.) dom

Graph Unit.

I now have my gpc working OK under LINUX SuSE 7.1, and would like to use the Borland-style graph mode. Is there a Graph Unit available ? Best regards. -- Geoff Bagley

Possible Bug About Read?

Hi, everyone, My system configuration is as following: SunOS 5.6 gcc 2.95.2 19991024 (release) gpc 20010324, based on 2.95.2 19991024 (release) I find the Read function can not read new line correctly. When I input a new line, Read tells me what I input is 2 spaces. I am not sure whether it is a bug or is there any way to fix it quickly? Regards, George

gpc Units.

After many years of using Borland Pascal (latest 7.0) under MSDOS, I now have SuSE Linux 7.1 and with it gpc. I have been able to run a few simple Pascal test programmes. Please can anyone tell me how to obtain the equivalent of the Turbo Units crt, and printer ? I guess that if they exist they will be enshrined in the C language. I need to be able to clear a display screen or window, and also to send formatted output to my printer. Regards. -- Geoff Bagley G3FHL.

Hi all, Since at least three monthes a bug pops in and pops out in an erratic way while running dostest.bat after a new compilation of a gpc snapshot under djgpp-2.95.2 (nothing to do with the recent discussion about 2.95.3: I have reverted to 2.95.2). It is in one or both of the test programs nicola1.pas and/or nicola2.pas. bug for external if var is a text...

Dear GPC, I need to do the following thing: in a main program I write on a file but the "text" variable is declared in another unit. The program is the following: program demofile; var test_external_value: integer; external; asmname 'external_value'; var f: text; external; asmname 'f_test_external'; begin writeln('value of test_external_value=', test_external_value); writeln('Create the file FILEDEMO'); {$I-} Assign(f, 'FILEDEMO'); ReWrite(f); {$I+} writeln(f, 'file written by program demofile'); close(f); end. The unit is the following: unit demofileunit; interface implementation var test_value: integer = 7; asmname 'external_value'; var f_test: text; asmname 'f_test_external'; end. Then I compile: gpc -c demofileunit.pas gpc -o demofile demofile.pas demofileunit.o running demofile: value of test_external_value=7 Create the file FILEDEMO demofile: `Unbind' applied to non-bindable TFDD file `(null)' (error #404 at 8049938) this is the errore received and FILEDEMO is not created. If I replace in demofile.pas the line: var f: text; external; asmname 'f_test_external'; in the line var f: text; so that f is not external, compiling and running again demofile: value of test_external_value=7 Create the file FILEDEMO and the content of FILEDEMO is: file written by program demofile Then, all is ok. I installed GPC 2.95.2 with Linux RedHat 7.0 (then gcc is 2.96, but I don't think it is important...) "mallinfo" in GPC?

In gcc one can use the function "mallinfo()" in order to know, among other things, the amount of dynamic storage currently allocated by the program through "malloc()". I use it to check for program memory leaks. I would like to know whether there is anything similar for gpc? -- Tomasz Kowaltowski

glibc et. al.

Hi all Pardon this ignorant question - what gives with glibc and how (if at all) does it affect GCC and GPC on any platform? I keep coming across various things about glibc, and AFAIK it has no relevance to GPC at all (it seems to be only for GCC people - and then, only for some platforms). Am I missing something?
