I know at least libc-5.4.x with x<20 are buggy; A binary compiled against 5.4.x should (but isn't always) compatible to an older libc.
AHHHH!!!! You might have struck upon something! My libc is :
libc.so.5.3.12
This just might be it... maybe...
I will get a newer version & install it this week sometime. In the meantime, thanks for all the great help! I will let you know what happens!
