Do not have a ppc here. However, on a x86, could find no problem with your test.pas or the i686 version of test.s.
gpc 20060325, based on gcc-4.1.1

Basing on gcc-4.1.2 (and Waldek's patches) instead of gcc-4.0.3 has solved this particular problem - thanks Russ for the hint.
