Is it possible to open a file for writing without truncating it? The reason I ask is because recently I thought about how POV Ray allows you to stop a rendering in progress and save a partial file, then later allows you to continue where you left off.
The only way I can think of is by renaming the file to a temporary name, writing a new file with the same name (truncates it to 0), copy the contents of the temporary file into the new one, delete the temporary file, then you write to the new file from then on. Is there a better way? Am I doing it the hard way? :)
