Hallo,

(The question was which language is used on this list.)
Should we make it clearer that the list is in English? The link to the list (Supprt/Mailing List) on the GPC home page mentions this, but perhaps not clear enough? Or are there other references to the list where this should be mentioned?

(Looking for documentation and books on Pascal.)
GPC itself comes with a manual (available as GNU Info, HTML, DVI and PostScript). However, only parts of it (mostly in the `Programming' chapter) are written like a tutorial, while much is more like a reference and probably not so well suited for a beginner.
General books on Pascal should be mostly ok, but most of them focus on a particular dialect (often Borland Pascal). While GPC supports almost all of this dialect, it often offers better (easier, more flexible, etc.) alternatives. So if you use such a book, it might be worth looking in the chapter `Borland Pascal' of the GPC manual from time to time which explains a number of such alternatives.

Hello,
I can understand English, but my english is not so good. At first I want excuse me if you sometimes can´t understand what I mean. The Mention on the GNU Pascal Page is clear enough, probably I read over the mention.

Esspecially I search German Dokumentation about GNU Pascal. Do you know some?
Althought I´m new on the list I want suggest that someone base a German GNU Pascal List, esspecially for german Beginners a German Mailinglist is much better than English one I think. What the others think about that?

In my opinion, there would be too few subscribers to the list, but if you disagree, you can set up a german language list.
In my Linux-User-Group is one more interested party :-)
Well, if you want to set up this group just to learn pascal, I know a much better way:
code, code and code. :-))
Start with a book, containing some simple examples based on standard-pascal. Try this: "Pascal", Vieweg-Verlag, ISBN:3-528-44316-2

Advantage: This would be a good forum for people who are not that familiar with the English language.
Disadvantage: This would split up our resources even more. Someone would have to watch both lists and translate if a discussion becomes interesting for both groups.
I wouldn't mind to set up a German-speaking list (for instance gpc-de@gnu.de) and/or providing aliases for existing list in other languages (for instance gpc-fr@gnu.de). We also can use other domains in the future (gnu-pascal.org, and probably also gnu.org).
What do you think?

AFAIK there is no such thing as a mailing list for Pascal in German language so a localized list could generate new talents :-) without fears against English language. IMHO, we should try the experiment. I would like to join both lists, if Dieter is still interested.

I agree absolute with eikes Opinion. I couldn´t found a German Mailing for Pascal, too. I read only English Texts when I can´t find a german one and the same is with mailinglists. First when I´m very interested in an Subject and there is no other german Mailinglist for that I join to an english Mailinglist. I can commmunicate in English ists much easier for me to talk and read in german. I think many of other Users feel the same. I´m very interested in a German Mailinglist and I think many other GNU Pascal Beginners and Users.
I´m pleased that Eike want to join the german Mailinglist, because we need some professional GNU Pascal Users to answer difficult questions.
Greetings Dieter

While I can see that, from the number of German speakers on this list, a German language group may be of advantage to them, the question then arises about speakers of Dutch, Norwegian, Serbo-Croat, Turkish, Yoruba, Swahili, Zulu, etc ... (okay, some of this may be a bit far fetched, and these people may well have no problems with English) - but the question still remains - if a specific language list were to be started, why not others? And if not, why not? And if others are started, who will manage the multiplication of efforts?
Just a thought (I do realise that, being a native English speaker disqualifies me from participation in this discussion, since, by definition, I am an obvious beneficiary of the present arrangement).
