Video Modes in Linux Item Type: Note Hello, everybody! Problem #1: ~~~~~~~~~~~ My Linux system uses a originalk TSENG ET 4000 W32i Graphics Card. Entering the line vga=ask into the startup file of LILO, I get a long list of possible text modes, also mode 100x40. This mode is very readable and therefore I want to make it my default text font. Where do I enter the settings to make them permanent? LILO tells me that it is mode 0b, but entering vga=0b, vga=9x0b, vga=12 as replacement for vga=all does not change the mode. Problem #2: ~~~~~~~~~~~ I encountered that YaST is changing back all modifications of X. I entered automatic startup of xearth, etc., but if I add some X applications, YAST recreates the configuration file. Is there a special filename which is executed during startup of X which contains my personal and/or system wide settings for X? Please, leave me*some instructions what I must do. identifiers in module declarations

Hello, I have the following module which doesn't work with gpc971001 (a known problem, see below): Module foo Interface; Export foo = (test1); procedure test1(addr : integer; float : real); end. { Interface } Module foo Implementation; procedure test1; begin writeln(addr); writeln(float); end; end. with unpatched 971001 I get: coltrane:~> gpc -c nsl.pas nsl.pas: In function `Test1': nsl.pas:14: undeclared identifier `Addr' (first use this function) [...] nsl.pas:15: undeclared identifier `Float' (first use this function) [...] Then I applied the patch of Nov. 10 for module.c posted by Peter to the list -- which I thought would fix this problem, and I get: coltrane:~> gpc -c nsl.pas nsl.pas:15: undeclared identifier `Float' (first use this function) [....] Is there another patch that needs to be applied to make both identifiers available to the implementation? -Kevin -- Kevin A. ASM question. Wait! Don't shoot!...

I know this has been asked over and over again, but I promise I've tried what I've been told and have even read FAQs. Does anyone have any working code to access the VGA segment using only a base address? I'm looking to see if it's possible to access the VGA segment without having to load a segment register under GPC's asm(). I tried the following code ... asm( 'movl $0xA0000, %edi' ); asm( 'addl $1000, %edi' ); asm( 'movb $15, (%edi)' ); ... and even the following code: VGASel := SegToSelector( $A000 ); GetSegmentBase( VGASel, VGABase ); ... asm( 'movl %0, %%edi' : '=m' (VGABase) ); asm( 'addl $1000, %edi' ); asm( 'movb $15, (%edi)' ); ... Neither of the two crashes. What's supposed to happen is a white pixel is supposed to show up at about (8,12) but nothing happens. I even got the AT&T Syntax right (instruction source, destination). I know that there are problems with the debugging informations produced by GPC. If you could post a short example of a Pascal program that behaves incorrect in the debugger, it would help us to fix the problem. gdb & tty

Hi all, It seems GPC does not allow proper debugging with GDB under Emacs when output are redirected to any tty device. It seems that the bug is due to emacs or gdb itself, because the error is that what I enter is not given properly to the program debugged, but this problem I have never encountered when debugging C code under similar circumstances, so I think GPC may be responsible for something! Of course one debugging Pascal code with gdb deserve such desagrement, just it may be of interest for some of you. If one of the list has a trick to make it work... Oh yeah... also merry Xmas and happy new year to all of you. FPL

Producing applications for the OS/2 presentation manager is straightforward if you know the OS/2 API. With some effort you can also produce 16-bit Windows applications with EMX.
