Since the writeln statement should be self-explanatory, you should have no problems converting it into a format that you prefer. [gpc-2.0] gcc version number mismatch

I need to build the latest gcc and gpc for a Deluxe Distribution. The current version of gcc is 2.7.2.3, but gpc-2.0 is expecting 2.7.2.1. I think 2.7.2.3 is nearly identical to 2.7.2.1, so maybe I can just change gpc's Makefile.in so that it expects 2.7.2.3. Do you know if this should work?

For Linux: man flock says: int flock (int fd, int operation) So, in GPC this is function flock (fd, operation: integer): integer; C; Operation is one of LOCK_SH, LOCK_EX, LOCK_UN, possibly OR'ed with LOCK_NB. Unfortunately, these "constants" are macros in C, declared in <sys/file.h>, and there's not yet a way to automatically translate them into Pascal, so you have to translate them manually, hoping that they're the same on all OS versions... fd is the file descriptor. In recent GPC betas, you can get the "FILE*" of a file (a pointer) via GetFile, but you need a way to get the file descriptor (an integer). I didn't find a C function that does this, but if there's really none, you could write one yourself. Not really. He was asking for Linux, and the Dos unit is not portable, AFAIK. But there's no need to use any units, because Extended(?) I was reported that the Debian distribution fails to symlink libgpc.so -> libgpc.so.2.8 and only sets libgpc.so.2 -> libgpc.so.2.8 which is not sufficient. Doing `ln -s libgpc.so.2.8 libgpc.so' manually in `/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i586-unknown-linux/2.7.2/' (or whereever Debian keeps this lib) should solve your problem. > find | grep lgpc Try `find | grep libgpc'. I guess all I need is to find out what package would install this -lgpc that it's looking for because I have search my entire system looking for it and can't find it. ie: find | grep lgpc Hope you can help, I would rather be programming for LINUX than for the DOS environment thanx Sean mecan(a)hotmail.com

This is true, but the compiler must provide some way (interface) to call the operating system service. Perl and C have Flock, and GPC should (does?) have a similar call that is transparent to the programmer implemented at the compiler level to call the correct operating system service for each OS it runs on for code portability. BP or Delphi compatible calls would be nice, but anything that would work on GPC that is standard on every platform supported only makes sense.
